I’m a Commercial Broiler Farmer. I completed the poultry course in Ballyhaise Agricultural College in 2021.

Coming from a farming background but with no experience in poultry, this course was extremely beneficial in teaching me about poultry anatomy and physiology, their day to day management, how to detect and prevent diseases and their optimum dietary requirements.

By visiting other poultry farms as part of the course, I gained an excellent insight into the practical side of broiler production.

In the future my aim is to expand and improve sustainability on the farm.

I would advise anyone hoping to pursue a career in poultry to complete the Teagasc poultry course, which gave me the knowledge and confidence to take on this challenge with no prior experience. If you enjoy farming, being your own boss, and flexible working hours, then with the right dedication this is a satisfying and rewarding career.
