Working Life

VFX Lighting Artists must be able to create clean, efficient lighting setups for a range of photoreal scenarios, accommodating a variety of models, materials, and surface types.

Role and Responsibilities  

  • Oversee the amalgamation and quality control of all data from upstream departments, including matchmove, modeling, and texturing.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex lighting and rendering challenges; evaluate and debug lighting setups to maintain technical and visual quality.
  • Responsible for scene assembly, integrating combined upstream data, and managing multiple shots simultaneously.
  • Accurately interpret and implement specific feedback from supervisors and clients.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of 2D multi-pass compositing workflows in Nuke (or similar software).
  • Collaborate closely with compositors to ensure all necessary 3D elements are delivered for high-quality final shots.

  An interest in visual effects and filmmaking, in particular cinematography is useful.

  To be comfortable with the more technical aspects of shading, rendering, and optimisation.

  You have got to be able to take and implement feedback and deliver high quality lighting results, often in a pressurised environment.

  Ability to interpret and execute director’s feedback. Can often predict feedback and offer alternative solutions.
