The Work
The Hair Designer leads the hair department. They collaborate with makeup and costume teams to bring characters and period designs to life on screen.
Role and Responsibilities
- The Hair Designer is the Head of the hair department and a senior figure on any film/TV production.
- Liaise with the make-up and costume departments to bring the vision of a film’s characters and period to screen.
- Work closely with the director and head of production design in pre-production to understand the looks required and research and develop those looks in advance of filming.
- Responsible for creating a detailed breakdown of the script and characters as relevant to hair design.
- Recruit, manage, and lead the hair team, negotiating the resources, daily schedules, and budget required.
