The Work
Body tracking is a precise and specialised skill. It requires the ability to accurately animate complex character rigs to match the movement of characters or objects—often on a frame-by-frame basis. This demands mastery of the animation toolset, along with excellent spatial awareness and a strong sense of timing.
Role and Responsibilities
- Animates 3D character rigs to accurately match the movement of actors in live-action footage.
- Handles some of the more complex and technically demanding camera or object tracking shots.
- Produces photorealistic animation that integrates seamlessly with live-action elements and moves convincingly through space.
- Creates proxy geometry for tracked objects or environments to validate solves.
- Blocks in the initial pass for full CG shots and sets up initial scene layouts to match previs.
- Cleans up LIDAR scans and manages on-set data, including organising location texture reference and stitching HDR panoramas.
- Interprets notes from the Matchmove Supervisor or CG Supervisor and delivers high-quality work on schedule.
- Maintains a solid understanding of the VFX pipeline and supports the smooth delivery of assets to downstream departments.

To be comfortable with complex animation rigs and the animation toolset of CG software such as Maya, Houdini, 3DsMax etc.
