About Us

University College Cork (UCC) is in the top 2% of universities worldwide. It is a research-intensive, student-centred, international top-tier university. Since 1845, UCC has been the comprehensive university of the south of Ireland. Today, UCC is a globally-oriented, research-led university. It provides a full range of disciplines, serving regional, national and international students. It offers programmes in the arts, humanities, social sciences, business, law, engineering, architecture, science, food science, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and the clinical therapies.

UCC has 21,000 students. In 2017, these included 15,000 in undergraduate programmes, 4,400 in postgraduate study and research, and 2,800 adults in continuing education across undergraduate programmes, postgraduate programmes, and short courses. Its student body includes 3,300 international students, representing more than 100 countries worldwide.

UCC is unrivaled in the quality of its academic programmes, the beauty of its campus and its vibrant student life. Its degrees, conferred by the National University of Ireland are internationally recognised. We are the only University in Ireland to be awarded the University Sunday Times University of the Year on five occasions since the inception of the award in 2002. Our students and their learning experience are our highest priorities.

Drawing on the spirit of Finbarr’s seventh-century site, we are dedicated to teaching and learning, enabled in our modern university by creative scholarship and understanding, to enhance the well-being of all. We educate our students to observe and question, to discern and reflect, to analyse and act, as independent thinkers and creative explorers.

We facilitate student work placements with multinational industry partners. 87% of undergraduate programmes offer work placements. 90% of our undergraduate programmes participated in work-based, clinical and international placements in 2017


94% of undergraduates employed or in further study or training within 9 months of graduation. UCC also encourages innovation and entrepreneurship. Blackstone LaunchPad at UCC, a campus-based experiential entrepreneurship programme offers coaching, ideation, and venture creation support.

UCC is a Cork City based campus. Cork is the largest and southernmost county of Ireland. It is a place of great wit, culture, and independence. Study Abroad – In today's global society, adding an international dimension to your studies will greatly enhance your experience of student life and will prepare you for a better future. UCC offers a wide range of study abroad options across the globe but most particularly in Europe and North America. Through the ERASMUS programme, the University has developed extensive links with partner universities in virtually all member states of the EU. UCC also offers a wide range of links with North American universities and you may now also avail of the opportunity to study in the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, and Singapore.
