5M5010 - Sustainability & the Built Environment at Dundrum College of Further Education is a full time year long course aimed at learners instructed in construction and the role sustainability plays in the future of building. the programme will look at the destructive impact of traditional building on the natural environment and the development of climate friendly solutions to construction.
Students will gain a familiarity with environmentally friendly design processes and how to use resources efficiently throughout the lifecycle of a building, from conceptual stage to design and construction to an operational building and its maintenance.
The programme will have a focus on renewable energy technology, equipment and materials used that make a building energy efficient. Students will look at buildings’ thermal performance, building conservation and the monitoring of material supply and demand.
Students will participate in two weeks of work experience placement.

- Leaving Certificate / LCVP / LCA or a recognised equivalent will be accepted
- Mature students are welcomed to apply as work / life experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
