Brand New 1 year Embedded Programme in Early Learning and Care at Dungarvan College

Dungarvan College is delighted to be a trail blazer by offering the brand new 1 year embedded programme in Early Learning and Care at NFQ level 5 and in doing so we are one of the first colleges to deliver the award. This one-year full-time programme leads to a Certificate in Early Learning and Care at NFQ level 5.

The programme comprises of 6 mandatory modules, enabling the learner to develop the knowledge, skills and competences required to work as an autonomous practitioner in an ELC setting. The following modules are taught on the programme:

The focus is on promoting the holistic well-being, development and learning of children from 0 to six years across a range of ELC settings.

The programme offers a balance of theory and practice, and professional practice placement is integral to the teaching and learning.

Learners must complete 150 hours of professional practice placement (per annum, when studying full-time) in a minimum of two ELC settings:

• working directly with children aged between 0 and 2 years 8 months
• working with children aged between 2 years 8 months and 6 years, with an appropriate balance between settings

*minimum of 50 hours with each age cohort, the final 50 hours can be spent with either age cohort.

Learners who successfully complete the programme will have opportunities to progress into the work place or into further and higher education.
