Monaghan Institute’s Advanced IT and Business Management Learners Engage with Local Industry

Posted on February 4, 2025

Recently, Monaghan Institute’s Level 6 Advanced IT and Business Management group had the pleasure of visiting both Combilift and Monaghan Mushrooms to inform their coursework.

At Combilift, the group who were warmly welcomed by staff members James Sheerin and Kevin Markey, discussed their research topic of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies and activities within organisations. They received detailed information and a guided tour, showcasing the company's daily CSR activities. These include sourcing with integrity, respecting the environment in their business operations, making positive contributions to communities, and promoting staff welfare. This hands-on experience allowed the learners to gain valuable insights, investigate further, and engage with the staff as part of their research project.

At Monaghan Mushrooms, the group met with Ruth Acheson (HR Director), Kate Scott (Group Marketing Manager), and Michelle Kelly (Business Analyst), who had recently visited the college and delivered a phenomenal presentation. The learners were provided with deep insights into the activities of Monaghan Mushrooms on both local and global stages.

Again, the learners gained a comprehensive understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility, and the company's ongoing positive impact on communities locally, nationally, and internationally. The importance of staff welfare was evident through the motivation and insights shared by the three ladies.

Both the learners and Monaghan Institute staff were delighted with the warm reception and the wealth of information provided by both Combilift and Monaghan Mushrooms, and for facilitating the visits. This experience will be invaluable for the learner’s research projects.
