Course Summary

If you’d like to qualify for in-demand quantitative roles in the insurance and financial industry, the Common Entry into Actuarial and Financial Mathematics programme (CAFM) might be for you. It’s especially ideal if you’d like the flexibility to explore different areas of maths before choosing how you’ll specialise.

You’ll learn the fundamental mathematical principles that underpin the state-of-the-art actuarial and financial models you’ll study in later years, along with computer programming, data analysis, economics and accounting.

Both courses offer an excellent route into well-paid, rewarding careers for students who like maths, who are good at it, and who are interested in seeing how maths is used in the world of business and finance.

Academic Spotlight: A Head for Numbers

As director of the DCU Maths Learning Centre and Assistant Professor of DCU School of Mathematical Sciences, it’s fair to say that Dr Eabhnat Ní Fhloinn ‘gets’ maths. But like many of her classmates at the time, she found herself struggling with it while studying at third level.

This led her to question why some people seem to show an aptitude for the subject while others experience more difficulty with it. Click HERE to find out more.
