Course Summary

The Medical Technology programme is a fusion of science and engineering subjects, applied to diagnostic, treatment and lifesaving medical devices and technology, that push the boundaries of medical science. Investigative

The Investigative person will usually find a particular area of science to be of interest. They are inclined toward intellectual and analytical activities and enjoy observation and theory. They may prefer thought to action, and enjoy the challenge of solving problems with sophiscticated technology. These types prefer mentally stimulating environments and often pay close attention to developments in their chosen field.

Realist

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

Career Progression

Our graduates have gained employment in the clinical Engineering department of University Hospital Limerick as well as many Medical Device companies in the Mid-west region including: Beckton Dickinson Research Centre Ireland, Johnson and Johnson, Edwards Life sciences, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Croom Medical, Teckro, Kneat Solutions and many more.

Successful graduates of this programme are eligible for Level 9 and 10 postgraduate programmes within TUS or elsewhere. Our graduates have been accepted into masters programmes in the areas of Biomedical Engineering, Quality and Regulatory affairs, Radiography, Medical Physics, Physiotherapy and others as well as Graduate programmes in the medical device industry including Abbott and Boston Scientific.
