Course Summary
The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Care & Education is a three-year level 8 honours degree awarded by University of Essex. The programme examines how play, learning, and policy influence young children’s development across historical, political, and cultural contexts.
Delivered through blended learning, this honours degree allows students to continue working full-time while completing their qualification. Career opportunities may include:
- Early years educator
- Room leader
- Early years manager
- Owner or manager of an early years setting
- Roles supporting children with additional needs/SEN
- Roles within County Childcare Committees and regulatory bodies
Graduates are eligible for the DCDE (Department of Children, Disability and Equality) Graduate Premium and may also progress to:
- Professional Master of Education (Primary), subject to entry requirements
- Postgraduate study at Master’s or Doctoral level
- Roles in inspection, policy development, administration, and service monitoring
- Teaching roles in further and adult education, with additional qualifications
The qualification supports progression into leadership, policy, research, and specialist roles within early childhood education and care.
