Course Summary
This innovative programme integrates theory, skills practice and practice placements. It aims to prepare competent graduates who are confident in their ability to deliver person centred, safe, compassionate, evidence-based, effective and high-quality care across diverse healthcare settings.
Note for QQI Applications: Applicants must present the FULL major award, taken in a single sitting, of any one of the following QQI-FET Level 5 major awards with a minimum credit value of 120 and distinctions (80% or better) in a minimum of five modules:
- Nursing Studies (5M4349) Level 5
- Healthcare Support (5M4339) Level 5
- Community and Health Services (5M4468) Level 5
Distinctions in the following modules must be included:
Anatomy and Physiology (5N0749/ D20001)
Nursing Theory and Practice (5N4325) or Introduction to Nursing (D20012)
Human Growth and Development (5N1279/D20032) or Biology (5N2746/C20006)
Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place.
How to Apply
Applications for the course can be made through CAO Available Places.
The Available Places application facility will be open for applications at Central Applications Office on 28th August 2025, the day after Round 1 offers have issued from CAO.
The course is available to qualified applicants presenting with Leaving Certificate or equivalent, Mature applicants who have completed the NMBI assessment test, and applicants from Further Education presenting with a Level 5 QQI award in specific courses.

Career Interests

The Investigative person will usually find a particular area of science to be of interest. They are inclined toward intellectual and analytical activities and enjoy observation and theory. They may prefer thought to action, and enjoy the challenge of solving problems with sophiscticated technology. These types prefer mentally stimulating environments and often pay close attention to developments in their chosen field.
Career Progression
Successful completion of the degree programme leads to eligibility to register as a general nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. Registered General Nurses have wide-ranging employment opportunities in Ireland, across the EU and beyond.
