Course Summary

We are preparing graduates to take a leading role in facilitating multilingual communication at international institutions. Practical and practice-based, the MA in Conference Interpreting equips students with the reflexive, linguistic, conference interpreting skills vital to successful communication in international & multilingual organisations.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements
Candidates must hold at least a Second Class Honours Level 8?primary degree in a related subject area or hold a primary degree in a?related area (which is acceptable to the college) without honours and?have three years’ relevant practical experience in the subject area.

For applicants whose first language is not English, an English language proficiency of IELTS score of 6.5 is required (with no less than 6.0 in any other band) or equivalent.?

No deadline. Offers will be issued on a continuous basis, however, candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible as places are limited to 12 and demand outweighs supply.

Linguistic

The Linguistic's interests are usually focused on ideas and information exchange. They tend to like reading a lot, and enjoy discussion about what has been said. Some will want to write about their own ideas and may follow a path towards journalism, story writing or editing. Others will develop skills in other languages, perhaps finding work as a translator or interpreter. Most Linguistic types will enjoy the opportunity to teach or instruct people in a topic they are interested in.



Career Progression

With a focus on real-world application, career-relevant modules, and opportunities for placements and global experiences, the MA in Conference Interpreting prepares you for a wide range of exciting roles in the world of interpreting.

Students must obtain a postgraduate qualification in Conference Interpreting to allow them to sit the Inter-Institutional EU Accreditation Tests and work as a professional conference interpreter. Students completing this course can avail of considerable employment opportunities worldwide as interpreting services are frequently required at conferences, seminars and so on. Many graduates work with EU and UN institutions. Opportunities are also available outside the large international organisations.
