The Higher Diploma in Nursing (Children’s Nursing) programme is delivered in partnership with the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems, and Children’s Health Ireland. This post-registration children’s nursing programme is a one-year fixed programme, awarding an academic accreditation at the Level 8 National Qualification Authority Ireland framework.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements
All applicants must:
• Registered with NMBI as RGN/RPN/RNID
• 6 months relevant nursing experience within the last 2 years up to and including 1st April of the year of application
• Students who have English as a second language must satisfy the English language requirements of the university to be eligible to apply

Please Note: If your preference is to be a student of UCD (partnered with CHI at Crumlin) there is an essential requirement that you must have undertaken a Level 8 Research Module (either stand alone or as part of a level 8 programme)

Please Note: If English is not your native language, unless you have completed your primary degree through English in an English-speaking country, an English language qualification is required for all programmes. Please refer to here for more details.

Desirable Criteria:
· Experience working with or caring for children and families
· Awareness of professional and paediatric issues
· Management of clinical risk and quality issues
· Experience of research-based practice and audit

• Copy of Birth Certificate or Personal Page of Passport.

Fees

Post-registered nursing students are paid employees of Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) and receive a salary plus increments. Fees are paid by the HSE for students undertaking this programme. Fees will be organised by the hospital when enrolment is complete. It is important to note, however, that the HSE will request repayment of fees, in the event that a student withdraws from the programme.

Social

The Social person's interests focus on interacting with the people in their environment. In all cases, the Social person enjoys the personal contact with other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.


Investigative

The Investigative person will usually find a particular area of science to be of interest. They are inclined toward intellectual and analytical activities and enjoy observation and theory. They may prefer thought to action, and enjoy the challenge of solving problems with sophiscticated technology. These types prefer mentally stimulating environments and often pay close attention to developments in their chosen field.
