The Student

Career Interests

This course is typically suited for people with the following Career Interests. If these interests do not describe you, this course may prepare you for work you may not find satisfying.

Social

The Social person's interests focus on interacting with the people in their environment. In all cases, the Social person enjoys the personal contact with other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

Career Progression

Academic Progression
Graduates of the Special Purpose Certificate in Training & Education will be able to progress to Postgraduate Diploma or MA in Education, Learning and Development.

Career Progression
Having a Level 9 postgraduate qualification will increase your employment prospects and open up opportunities to apply for more advanced roles in the area of education, learning and development.

On completion, the graduate will be a confident and competent professional who demonstrates their mastery of designing learning experiences for a wide range of learners in many contexts. The exposure to learning from other practitioners and their complex contexts will have enhanced their own abilities to address challenges of ill-defined and unpredictable contexts. This high level of competence will ensure that graduates are agile and innovative practitioners.

At an organisational and national level, there is an increasing need for adult educators to have formal qualifications. Many who support learners in an organisational context such as role holders in Learning and Development or Human Resource departments have a Train the Trainer qualification at Level 7 or a degree in Human Resources. The individual or the organisation may want to have a higher level or specialist qualification to support and inform their role.
