The Student

Career Interests

This course is typically suited for people with the following Career Interests. If these interests do not describe you, this course may prepare you for work you may not find satisfying.

Realist

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

Employment Opportunities
The Masters and Post Graduate programmes in Maritime Operations will prepare a broad range of graduates for roles as senior port professionals, local and national, government officials and seafaring professional with leadership and managerial responsibilities in both industry and public sector roles, ashore and afloat. Maritime managers must have the skills, knowledge and competency to ensure the safe, effective delivery of maritime activities, whether ashore in a port or a drydock or onboard a sea going vessel.

The graduates will be abreast of the global shipping and supply chain landscape to ensure effective and compliant requirements for their organisations to ensure the movement of vessels and goods while realising efficiencies and meeting current and future shipping emission reduction requirements.

NMCI’s MSc in Maritime Operations Masters and Post Graduate programmes are developed with our industry partners to address all issues relating to the management of our maritime industry with a strong focus on digitalisation and future technologies; diversity and people management; and the maritime industry’s key role in addressing the global climate challenge.

The programme modules are designed to equip students with knowledge and tools to manage port, to critically appraise and advise on legal maritime matters affecting port and shipping operations, and to enable organisations to operate effectively and still meet climate change targets of net zero by 2050.

This programme provide students with discrete job readiness skills to qualify for more senior positions of responsibility in maritime management. A strong collaborative relationship has developed with industry cohorts representative of ports, shipping companies, transport companies, maritime and offshore renewables and service sectors. Industry partners have continuously demonstrated the demand needed to upskill their maritime personnel.
