It was clear from a young age that being self-employed / working within my family business was important to me. This was a driving force in my choice of college and career path.

It’s a family business , so hard work and gaining experience.

This can be anything from a full day of meeting, admin, physical labour in the form of packing orders or simply making sales calls.

I am largely responsible for the marketing and online sales for the business.

Working remote and having a limited skilled work force locally. The feeling of “ doing it all” is a challenge.

The flexibility and not living in a big city.

As I take on many roles in the business, I do have to admit that the accounting side of things is endured and not enjoyed.

I am very driven and focused. Hard work does not phase me our make me shy away from opportunities. I am also very organised and good at planning ahead. There is no magic wand for time and experience though!

Yes it does. Having a work life balance, especially with a young family is curtail. My job’s location (north west of Ireland) allows for a relatively chilled day to day activities, no traffic and affordable housing.

Give your over all life ambitions, style and quality of a life as a major considering factor when trying to make a career choice. Its also never too late to change direction.
