What were the main 'career decision' milestones in your life so far?

My best decision was to take up driving coaches it has opened up so many opportunities for me.
Who are the people who most influenced your career direction?

My wife Linda her support has been steadfast during our 43 years of marriage.
How did you go about getting your current job?

I have just sent out my cv to companies and because of my experience I always get offered work for the tour season.
What are the main tasks and responsibilities?

The safety of your group is paramount at all times.
Planning is also a major part of your job contacting hotels and site visits ahead of time.What are the main challenges?

Constantly watching the group for their safety.
What do you like most?

Meeting so many people from all over the world from so many different background.
Is there anything that isn't great?

The time away from home can be tough sometime.
What particular skills do you bring to your workplace?

Many years of learning how to deal with people and their different needs.
What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?

Due to family circumstances I actually left school at 14 and went to work, but I am constantly reading books and updating my information for touring.
What is your education to date?

As I said previously I left school at 14 different times then I went back to adult education at 50 and sat the Junior Cert and passed, something I am very proud of.
What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?

Went I did the course for the national tour guide badge I met some wonderful teachers.
What have been the most rewarding events in your career so far?

The best feeling is at the end of a tour when people come up and say they had an amazing holiday and learnt so much about Ireland.
What is your dream job?

I am working in my dream job now.
Does your job allow you to have a lifestyle you are happy with?

That job can be hard on family life as you can be away from home for 12 days at a time something you need to think about if taken up work as a guide.
What advice would you give to someone considering this job?

Everyone is different but definitely listen to your group read the room and don't be afraid to ask people in the industry for help and advice when on the road.
What are the three most important personal characteristics required for the job?

Patients is foremost the ability to be able to talk to people and stay calm.
Have you undertaken, or do you plan to undertake any further training as part of your job?

Working as a tour guide you need to constantly keep up-to-date with everything.
What kinds of work experience would provide a good background for this position?

Someone who has worked in hospitality and used to dealing with the public is a big help.
