What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
What I didnt expect in my psychology degree was the level of maths and statistics that was required. I was poor at maths and struggled a bit with this aspect of my degree. I probably would have chosen biology for leaving cert in hindsight just to get a better insight into how the brain works.
I found honours English throughout secondary school did help as I was used to writing essays and critically analysing pros and poetry. There was a lot of philosophy in my degree which can be taxing if you havent been exposed to it before so if there was an option to do a philosophy subject I would recommend that.
What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
My biggest takeaway from school was maths. Having a solid understanding of maths and being confident with numbers has really supported me in becoming the business manager I am today. If I could do things again, I’d go back and study Excel more deeply. It’s such a valuable tool, not only in management but in life. I planned and managed our wedding using my basic Excel Skills.

I studied the required subjects such as Maths, English, Irish and opted for Accounting, Business Studies, French and Home Economics. I really enjoyed working with numbers and Business Studies gave me a good foundation of what to expect in the working environment. Accounting and Maths were my favourite subjects and they had a big influence on my course choice.
