What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
I loved French & Spanish in school, it’s so important to be able to speak another language. Education is something that continues through life though and it’s important to remember that although diploma & degrees are a fantastic, there are so many more ways now to progress your tourism career. The ETB’s apprenticeship programme is a wonderful scheme and can be a solid foundation for careers throughout the entire tourism industry but especially tourism transport!
What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
I started Commerce in NUIG in 2015, lasted a year as I listened to other people’s opinions too much then took a year out (one of the best decisions I ever made) then went on and studied Business in Tourism in Cork. This was a 3 year course and one of the years I got to study abroad in Munich (other option was Madrid) this was one of the best years of my life and I met my future wife. If you have the choice to do an Erasmus year DO IT!!!
What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
Because I didn’t do my leaving certificate in Ireland I didn’t have to make big choices earlier on in my life. It was when I went to college that I chose the subjects that I wanted to do. I chose to major in Chemistry and to minor in Biology as a Pre Medical School student. In America you have to complete a degree first before you are accepted into medical school. By my third year of college I fell in love with chemistry and no longer wished to go to med school. It is funny how it all worked out but I have no regrets about it. I really enjoy being a chemist.
