This is a one year specialist course training students to work as Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) in Pre school, Primary and Secondary School Classrooms. Primary and Secondary Schools as well as specialist schools employ Special Needs Assistants to work in a variety of educational settings.

Applicants should have a love of children and gain pleasure in helping others. If you have a vocation to assist pre school,primary or secondary students and enjoy school life, this course is very fulfilling. You should be mature, hardworking and organised. You will be responsible for securing an appropriate off site work placement.

Treating those individuals is a continuous responsibility for clinical exercise prescription graduates. Physical activity can be used to prevent, treat and manage a range of chronic health conditions after consideration of the target individual’s health status, baseline fitness, goals and preferences.

Clinical Exercise Prescription allows us to understand the exercise capacity of the individual and where the benefit lies for each specific case in terms of frequency, intensity, type and time will create the most effective treatment. This clinical exercise prescription course will enable practitioners from allied health professions to prescribe exercise for the purposes of disease prevention and disease management in a safe and scientific manner. Students will engage in an evidence-based, clinically focused online learning experience that is globally relevant to reflect the increasing public health demand for clinical exercise prescription.

The aim of this course is to provide additional upskilling to individuals who are interested in progressing their careers in public health and preventative health domains through clinical exercise prescription.

Graduates from rehabilitation, nursing, dietetics and nutrition, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sports science and physiology backgrounds should apply. Graduates from other degree courses will be assessed on an individual basis. Those with clinical experience will be prioritised.

The aim of this programme is to allow students to gain the required qualification, skills and competencies to enter the healthcare work force as a Clinical Measurement Physiologist. These healthcare professionals perform diagnostics tests for patients, reporting and acting on the outcomes and being part of the interdisciplinary team treating patients. This degree was developed in collaboration with the professional body for Clinical Measurement Physiologists, the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Physiology.

In this course (which is unique in the country), you’ll learn how to measure and image the physiological activity of the human body and provide diagnostic information to medical staff.

As well as learning through traditional lectures, you’ll gain extensive practical experience, including placement in a hospital. It’s not necessary to have studied physics before entry.

Speech and Language Therapists work with people of all ages and assess, diagnose and treat individuals with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders. 

The aim of this minor Award is to provide participants with a basis on which to develop their therapeutic understanding of the theoretical and clinical considerations of substance use. The objectives of the module include increasing knowledge of Substance Use issues to include pharmacology, aetiology, and interventions appropriate to this clinical cohort.

This Cloud Computing course is designed to introduce students to the Cloud Computing discipline. Students become familiar with the fundamentals of software programming in languages which are Cloud standards. Networking, computer hardware and operating systems are also presented with an emphasis on how they relate to the cloud. Key modules in Virtualisation Support and Distributed Systems are also studied.

On completion successful students may progress to Cloud Computing Level 6, other education opportunities or to the labour market.

Learners will gain skills in virtualisation, specifically focusing on VMware’s technologies, as well as distributed systems which are the key areas of Cloud Computing. Areas of study will also include software design and development in addition to web design and development.

The Coaching and Sports Performance programme aims to develop, from evidence- based theory and practice, the students’ ability to lead physical activity, to coach athletes (individually and in teams), and manage sports teams and individual athletes.

Graduates will also have the knowledge, skills, competence and first-hand experience to design and lead strength and conditioning programmes and to design and lead performance training programmes.

The programme focuses on key theories with applied research and practical skills in these core domains to provide graduates with the relevant knowledge, skills and competences to work as professionals in a wide range of sports coaching, athletic development, and health and wellbeing settings.

The option of a comprehensive sports internship programme that provides not just breadth, but also significant depth, in the operational machinations of the ‘coaching science and sports performance’ industry in Ireland and/ or abroad, is an integral component of this programme.

Coastal Guiding, is aimed at people who are passionate about their environment and exploring its coastal landscape, heritage, culture and ecology with an enthusiasm for getting outdoors and sharing this with others.

As part of the course, students visit heritage, cultural, ecological and archeological sites in other parts of County Mayo and beyond for field trips, training and guiding opportunities.

This four-year programme is designed to help students gain the theoretical and practical skills required for the employment market in business. students will have opportunities to interact with businesses and learn in real workplace scenarios and students also have the option to benefit from experiencing college life in other countries through the Study Abroad Programme. 

Commerce with Gaeilge allows students to further their language skills, study in the Gaeltacht for a semester, undertake work experience and learn about all aspects of business. It is the students who want to build a career in business while also further their knowledge of the Irish language.  

All business subjects are taught through English.  In third year students will spend one semester on work placement in an Irish language medium company or organisation. In year three students will study in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge at NUI Galway's campus in An Cheathrú Rua.
