The HND in Social & Community Work has been developed to prepare you for employment in Community Work. This internationally recognised course is also an excellent springboard into third-level education.  You will study a wide range of related dis-ciplines such as sociology, psychology and social policy, all of which are delivered by highly qualified and experienced teachers. The course focuses on the importance of personal and professional development in the workplace.

Learners will attend college four days per week in first year and three days per week in second year. The remaining days may be used to satisfy the work placement requirements of the course. Students generally pursue a placement in their vocational area of interest with the support and guidance of the course coordinator. Garda vetting is required prior to commencing work experience and organised by the college.

The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence, to work independently and or take responsibility for the work of others in providing a range of services in a social and vocational rehabilitation context and or to progress to higher education and training.

Social care workers provide professional individual or group care to clients with personal and social needs, in a caring, compassionate, non-judgmental way. Client groups include children and adolescents in residential care; young people in detention schools; people with intellectual or physical disabilities; people who are homeless; people with alcohol/drug dependency; families in the community, older people, and asylum-seekers/refugees.

This course will familiarise you with the latest concepts and theoretical developments in the relevant academic disciplines, and help you to develop as a self-aware, reflective, altruistic, empathic social care professional.

This course prepares students to have a rewarding career in social care, a profession characterised by working in partnership with people who experience marginalisation, or disadvantage, or who have special needs.

Social care practitioners work in a wide variety of settings with a wide variety of people: children and adolescents in residential care, people with learning or physical disabilities, the homeless, people with alcohol/ drug dependency, families in the community, older people or recent immigrants to Ireland. This programme is delivered through a blend of lectures, workshops and two full semesters of off-site, supervised practice placementSocial studies examines  the past and current behaviour of individuals and societies. It predicts possible future human behaviour through the study of subjects such as economics, geography, politics and psychology. This knowledge can then be used to try to improve the lives of people.

Social care practitioners typically work in a direct person-to-person capacity with service users. This programme is delivered through a blend of lectures, workshops and two full semesters of off-site, supervised practice placement.

This course is designed for people who want to attain the standards of proficiency for social care workers as defined by CORU. The learner will engage with 18 modules that explore social care practice and how it applies in various social care settings. Students will complete over 800 hours of supervised practice placement, in a social care setting.

Social Care Practice is a dynamic and continuously developing field that is now professionally regulated. Throughout this honours degree, students develop their critical thinking skills, have a greater understanding of human interaction and how to respond professionally and informally to the needs of people who use support services.

Professional practice placement is integral to this programme, where students complete two 13-week blocks in professional social care practice settings.

Social studies examines  the past and current behaviour of individuals and societies. The overall aim of the course is to develop critically reflective, skilled and ethically aware practitioners with the capacity to build professional relationships, in partnership with vulnerable individuals and groups who experience marginalisation, disadvantage or special needs.

Social care is a practice based profession and an academic discipline. This degree will give you a recognised professional qualification in social care and prepare for you for the challenging and rewarding role of being a social care worker. Our programme is a combination of academic study and assessed practice learning opportunities. We use a variety of innovative teaching methods to support students to acquire the knowledge, skills and values required to practice as a Social Care Worker.

Social Care Practice is a dynamic and continuously developing field that is now a professionally regulated career under CORU, along with other health and social care professions. Throughout this honours degree, students develop their critical thinking skills, have a greater understanding of human interaction and how to respond in a professional and informed way to the needs of people who use support services.

This one-year course aims to deepen students knowledge of a wide range of social care areas from Mental Health Awareness to Disability Awareness. It will stimulate and challenge students to evaluate current trends in the sector. The course is a comprehensive and challenging course comprising both academic and practical modules.

This course will suit those who have a good knowledge of Social Care and are seeking to progress in their professional development. Students will get an understanding of the many roles of a Social Care Professional and models of social care provision.

This course introduces learners to Social Studies and Social Care work. The course provides an academic foundation along with the practical experience necessary for working in the area of Social Care. It is also ideal for those who wish to continue their studies by progressing to Level 6 or higher at Third Level.

Two years, part-time for the full award. Students will receive a QQI component certificate at the end of the first year.

Social Care Work is described by CORU as a relationship-based approach to the purposeful planning and provision of care, protection, psychosocial support, and advocacy in partnership with vulnerable individuals and groups who experience marginalisation, disadvantage, or special needs.
