This three year course will give you the opportunity to discover which area of science - Bioanalytical Science, Food Science & Nutrition or Pharmaceutical & Medicinal Science. This is a good choice for anyone who know they want to study science but are unsure about which specific area you want to specialize in. After one year you’ll be able to make your choice, furthering your study and opening up numerous career opportunities including becoming a Biology teacher, Quality Manager or Biopharmaceutical Scientist, in the areas of Biopharmaceuticals, the Environmental sector and Education. 

This programme is an general entry science degree that gives students an exceptional level of flexibility. The programme builds a core foundation in key science disciplines in Year 1. Throughout this course students develop an understanding of the physicochemical and biological principles that underpin the design, function, synthesis, analysis and delivery of pharmaceutical substances. The Maynooth University Certificate in Science/Computer Science is a Level 6 Foundation Programme for mature students (aged 21 years or over by 1st January 2021) who wish to undertake a foundation year in preparation for degree studies in the Science and Engineering areas, or in the area of Computer Science. Students enrolling on this one-year, full-time Programme can opt for either the Science strand or the Computer Science strand. There are a maximum of 25 places on the course each year, and students benefit from the collegial and supportive learning environment provided by this group.

Under the Science strand, students undertake modules in Mathematics, Engineering Science, Computer Science, Experimental Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

Under the Computer Science strand, students undertake modules in Computer Science, Mathematics, Experimental Physics, Mathematical Physics and Electronic Engineering.

This course provides training for learners who wish to follow a career in Science. Through this course you can develop skills and competencies in the preparation, use and maintenance of laboratory equipment to perform a range of laboratory procedures.

This course provides an introduction to the world of science and covers a variety of subjects related to laboratory and physical sciences. It is suitable for learners who wish to train for employment as a laboratory assistant. The course will also equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to access science based programmes in third level institutions.

Science and maths teachers work to develop their pupils’ understanding of the world around them and to educate future generations of scientists, engineers and technologists, not to mention citizens who are scientifically, mathematically and technically literate.

You’ll build a strong foundation in key areas of education, mathematics and either physics or chemistry, developing essential mathematical thinking skills, and scientific practices and ways of working throughout the four years. You’ll also study the history, psychology, sociology and philosophy of education, as well as undertaking curriculum studies.

Our Science Education degree involves the study of both science and education over a four-year period after which you will be a fully qualified science teacher. UCC’s Science Education programme is an example of the concurrent model of teacher training which means that you study both science and education over the duration of the programme.

In this Nanoscience course you will learn about the study of very small-things on a nanometer scale (one thousandth millionth of a metre). This is the scale of large molecules like plastics or proteins.

Nanotechnology includes the techniques used to create structures on a scale below 100 nm, which can be used in new generations of electronics, sensors and computer chips.
