This degree provides you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and professional skills in preparation for an exciting career in the health, exercise and sports sector – and as a massage therapist.

The programmes consist of applied, active training programmes (massage casework, aquatic therapy, applied anatomy and posture, functional assessment, fitness testing) and the theoretical foundations underpinning the population health and wellbeing and optimal body function through massage/body work.

This honours degree provides you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and professional skills in preparation for an exciting career in the health, exercise and sports sector – and as a massage therapist.

This course explores how physical activity can positively impact the human body and mind. Students will undertake a comprehensive blend of modules in a broad range of health and physical activity related disciplines, and they will be provided with an opportunity to apply this theoretical and practical knowledge and skills during two work placements throughout the programme.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, students will graduate with the scientific knowledge and skills required to effectively design, implement, manage and evaluate health and physical activity programmes for a diverse range of population groups.

AU391 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Health and Social Care has been formally approved by CORU, Ireland’s multi-profession health regulator. The course based in ATU Donegal is the third course at ATU to be approved by CORU in recent years and marks its commitment to providing high-quality education in the field of Health and Social Care Practice.

This course has been designed to enable you to discover all the aspects of health issues, and learn how to understand, research and act to improve the health of populations. 

During the course, you’ll encounter many different ways of thinking about and acting on health issues, including biological, social, political, ethical and psychological perspectives. You’ll not only learn about different potential career paths, but you’ll also get to focus many projects and other programme activities on your own health interests.

As a Health and Society student, you’ll participate in a voluntary community project in your first year, then go on to design and implement a health equity campaign in second year. In your final year, you’ll complete a health research project and write your final dissertation.

Once you’ve completed the programme, you could go on to work in a state or voluntary health or social agency, or go to work in overseas development. Many of our graduates apply to go directly into further study, such as a postgraduate programme in occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, health promotion, social research and a wide range of other areas.

This course provides a recognised qualification necessary for working as a Health Care Assistant in a variety of settings, including hospitals, day and residential care, mental health, palliative care and the home. The content of the course focuses on preparing the learner for the workplace. It equips the carer with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in this rewarding role as a member of the care team. Two days per week are allocated to facilitate work experience in order to prepare well for employment.

It is suitable for those wishing to embark on a care in caring and those already working in the sector who wish to gain a recognised qualification. Employers consistently seek to employ students directly from this course.

This one-year course will prepare participants for work with people in a hospital, long-term care home, community development, residential care setting, or respite care and nursing homes. This programme is ideal for both school leavers and experienced mature persons seeking to further their education. The completion of work placement as part of the program, will equip students with practical hands-on experience.

The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill, and competence to work independently and under supervision in providing support in a variety of Healthcare settings and or to progress to higher education and training.

To support students in preparation for work placement, additional certification is also offered e.g. Safe Patient Moving and Handling, Cardiac First Response, Hand Hygiene and Safe Guarding Vulnerable Adults.

The BSc (Honours) in Health Informatics aims to produce graduates with the interdisciplinary expertise required to lead and support Ireland’s digital health transformation. The programme combines core computing, data science and artificial intelligence skills with applied knowledge of healthcare systems, ethics & compliance, and patient-centred practice.

This programme aims to produce graduates with a strong academic base in health science disciplines related to physical activity and exercise. Students will graduate with a thorough understanding of health sciences and their application. Emphasis is placed on developing core health-related skills and competencies. The degree is comprised of a number of inter-related subject streams including health promotion and public health, physical activity, exercise physiology, nutrition sciences, and research methods. Core modules are complemented by supporting modules in IT and communications. Students are equipped with a unique blend of practical skills and knowledge in a broad range of health-related fields.

Dietitians are uniquely qualified to translate scientific information on food, health and disease into practical guidance enabling people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices. The modules within this course enable the development of scientific knowledge relevant to human nutrition and dietetics, the advancement of analytical and critical thinking and the integration of evidence-based practice. This programme also develops the student’s ability to work and communicate with others in an ethical, flexible, and adaptable manner. 

Health Science with Occupational Therapy Studies is the study of the human body with particular focus on Anatomy and Physiology and provides a foundation to Occupational Therapy studies. This two year Health Science with Occupational Therapy Studies incorporates year one of the three year BSc Honours in Occupational Therapy at Coventry University (CU). 

Health Science with Physiotherapy Studies is the study of the human body with particular focus on Anatomy and Physiology and provides a foundation to Physiotherapy studies. Through a unique progression opportunity, this programme allows students to progress to complete a BSc Honours in Physiotherapy at Coventry University.

The BSc (Hons) Health Science is a three-year honours degree that provides a direct pathway into MSc programmes in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Dietetics.
