The Higher Certificate in Applied Construction Technology equips graduates with the skills and technical knowledge required to enter the construction industry at technician level. This programme is based around ATU Sligo’s state of the art construction workshops and as a result can deliver a unique experience to students by applying theoretical knowledge to practical projects. Students gain practical skills in carpentry and joinery as well as an understanding of how emerging technologies They will explore scientific principles and the behaviour of materials used in construction, understand current health and safety regulations and methods of quantifying materials for the construction of domestic buildings. 

This exciting new course is designed to examine the impact of issues such as climate change and global habitat degradation, with a view to providing a grounding in future-proof, sustainable environmental practices. You will acquire a broad base of knowledge in ecological sustainability, conservation and biodiversity, including theoretical concepts and best practices relating to ecosystems. You will learn:

Economics is the study of people in the ordinary business of life. It is about the choices and decisions that we make and the consequence of these decisions. The BSc Applied Economics is a degree in Economics with a difference. And you can focus on your core interests, by choosing from a range of specialisms such as data science, computational physics or semiconductors.

Gaining vital real-world experience
In third year, you’ll do an INTRA work placement, either in an industrial or research laboratory environment. We strongly support students applying for summer internships both nationally and internationally, and some Applied Physics students go on such competitive internships each year, both in Ireland and abroad.

The aim of this course is to prepare graduates for a range of technical positions within the multidisciplinary field of applied physics and instrumentation.

Whilst there is particular emphasis on employment within process industries, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, beverage and water, graduates are well equipped for employment in other sectors such as computers, medical devices and microelectronics, as well as in hospitals and in research and development.
