The BEng Hons Mechanical Engineering with Enterprise Development will prepare you to become a professional engineer, working on electronic products and systems, from research and design to installation and sales.Your job may be to take an idea frm conception to final product.

You will be qualified to work in many areas, including power generation and control, transportation, IT, manufacturing, construction and telecommunications.

Most engineers work with large-scale systems, such as using electricity to transmit energy or controlling automation in the home. You will learn a wide range of technologies, from household appliances and installing lighting within buildings, to power stations and satellite communications.

The aim of this programme is to equip learners with the knowledge, skill and competency to achieve a QQI Level 5 Mechanical Pesticide Application 5N20435. On completion learners will be able to identify legislative requirements in relation to the use of pesticide, demonstrating understanding of the principles of application by being capable of using a range of pesticide applicators including a boom sprayer, slug pellet applicator and a propelled weedlickers safety, using required PPE, setting up and calibrating correctly and completing all relevant required paperwork.

This course perfectly blends mechanical engineering and electronic engineering. It offers classes in 3D modelling and design, for example, as well as circuit design and programming. In third year, you’ll get to do a six-month INTRA work placement and throughout the course, you’ll do lots of project-based learning where you use the latest real-world tools and technologies to solve problems and, of course, build robots. That’s not all. You’ll also take some business-based modules, so you can learn how to develop a business plan and work with other parts of an enterprise.

While you can go on from this course to work in either mechanical or electronic engineering, our graduates typically end up in roles where they incorporate one into the other. For example, they might put sensors into a machine to measure aspects of how it’s working or develop control systems for a lift or a car. Either way, mechatronics graduates are in huge demand.

Mechatronics is the combination of mechanics, electronics, robotics and computing that is used in modern engineering industries. It involves the study of automation from an engineering perspective and serves the purpose of controlling advanced hybrid systems in business and industry.

In this work-based version of our campus course, you will spend three days a week in the workplace and two days a week studying online from IT Sligo, Ireland's largest and most experienced institute in online learning.

You will learn how to analyse, design, and control the type of machines and processes that are used, for example, in biomedical, automotive manufacture and high-speed automation. As a Mechatronic Systems graduate you will be equally at home in the mechanical or electronic domain and will be a specialist in interfacing computer-controlled systems.

Across the programme, practice-based learning is framed by the study of media and broadcast concepts, critical contexts, and current industrial practices. This approach encourages our students to become creative and critical practitioners with highly developed audio-visual literacy.

This one-year full time course equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to work as a media professional both independently and in a supervisory capacity in a fully functioning radio station. The programme is designed to give the learner ample opportunity to hone key skills working in a live broadcasting environment, develop an understanding of an ever changing and growing media industry and build a portfolio of work as a media professional, broadcaster and journalist.

In our Media Studies degree students will study the principles and practices of audio-visual production and interactive web authoring, how to research and analyse media cultures, genres and industries, and the role of media in society and politics.
