This course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills to analyse and understand scientific evidence in a laboratory setting. Forensic evidence is used to enhance investigative work which may be required by the judicial system.

This full-time one-year programme offers an introduction to forensic science and its application to criminal law. Students will gain practical skills in the science laboratory as well as gaining knowledge of the criminal law system in Ireland. Progression is possible into chemistry and forensic related courses and these, in turn, link to professions in An Garda Síochána, the Defence Forces and Forensic Science Labs.

This course provides an opportunity for you to investigate your interest in Forensics and Investigative Sciences. The study of Forensics, Criminal Law and Criminology is an excellent preparation for application to An Garda Siochana, the Defence Forces, forensic science laboratories and the State Laboratory. This should provide an opportunity for students to explore their preferred area of future study in investigative sciences or forensics.

Students will discover how a crime scene is investigated and how to collect and analyse crime scene evidence. They will learn about ethical computer hacking, DNA analysis and much more. There is a large practical and project component to the programme, and students will learn skills such as project management, time management, decision making and laboratory practical skills.

This course is designed to develop knowledge and skills relating to digital forensics and cybersecurity. Learn to collect, analyze, and report on information found on computers and networks, and apply it in law enforcement and investigations, commercial, private, or institutional applications, and in the context of cybersecurity.

This course provides a comprehensive foundation in core sciences alongside a practical understanding of the Irish legal system. Through hands-on laboratory work and specialized forensic concepts, students develop essential skills in problem-solving, communication, and the use of modern technology. These competencies are highly transferable and prepare graduates for careers in diverse fields, including An Garda Síochána, the Defence Forces, the State Laboratory, and the Forensic Science Laboratory.

The BSc in Forestry is a three year degree course that prepares students for a professional career in Forest Management.The programme is professionally accredited by the Society of Irish Foresters and graduates may apply to be placed on the Forest Service register of Approved Foresters.

This degree is focused on sustainable forest management. Students engage in extensive fieldwork and a semester-long industry placement, gaining practical experience in forest operations. The curriculum covers topics such as silviculture, forest protection, timber technology, and environmental management.

The Level 5 Certificate in Forestry course provides a sound understanding of the fundamental knowledge and the essential skills required for those involved in forestry operations.

The course is full time from September to May and includes an eight week Practical Learning Period in March and April. The course combines practical skills in forestry.

The course runs over 24 weeks from September to June and includes a 12 week Practical Learning Period. Practical skills in the forest and classroom theory are spread out in three week blocks over the academic year.

The Level 6 Certificate in Forestry course provides a viable option for those who want to obtain a recognised qualification and specialised skills awards. Students with a Level 6 forestry qualification can also progress to higher education at degree level and offers training for people who intend to take up employment in the forestry industry as forest supervisors or self employed contractors.

UCD Forestry students learn how to create habitats, provide spaces for recreation, and produce timber – a resource that can simultaneously store carbon and substitute for concrete and steel. Students will gain skills in forest planning, remote sensing, the use of geographical information systems and forest modelling while developing the capacity for life-long learning that enables them to stay abreast of developments in policy, technology and the sciences that underpin forestry practice. The combination of science and business modules, complemented by a work experience placement, ensures that UCD Forestry graduates are in high demand across the sector.

This course offers such learners an opportunity to gain an understanding of the teaching profession and its practices Learners will gain a wide understanding of educational systems and teaching practices in Ireland and will examine key educational issues including the social influences surrounding how people learn and the potential barriers to learning.

Within the Modern Languages programme you study two modern European languages to degree level.  You can choose between French, German, Irish, Italian, Russian and Spanish. Apart from French and Irish all languages can be studied from both advanced and beginners level.

French studies develop transferable skills (excellent writing and oral communication abilities, critical thinking, extensive analytical skills) that are highly sought after across a range of sectors (the creative industries, public service, tourism, publishing, interpreting, teaching, journalism, broadcasting, the Diplomatic Service, etc.). The study of French language, literature, history, politics and philosophy is a hugely enriching intellectual experience and it also leaves graduates very well placed to succeed in a wide range of professional contexts.
