The course will allow you to study all 8 of the core modules examined in the entrance exams to the Law Society as a trainee solicitor. These are constitutional law, contract law, criminal law, property law, equity and trusts, European Union law, tort law, and company law.

Choosing the law stream on the Bachelor of Arts at DCU will allow you to explore the key foundations of law while also studying another discipline. This will provide you with an interdisciplinary education, covering many important areas of law while also choosing from History, International Languages or Media Studies.

Media Studies graduates generally have excellent communication, analytical and team-working skills – skills that are in high demand in the knowledge economy. Politics is an ideal subject for people interested in issues such as public policy; human rights; international development; and conflict, security and peacebuilding. It prepares graduates for a wide range of careers such as policy analysts, researchers and/or programme officers in national and international governmental organisations (GOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and International affairs. Graduates may also choose to work in multilateral agencies such as the European Union, the United Nations or the World Bank. Or they may choose to enter politics directly at local, national and international levels.

If you are a budding reporter or are curious about the world around you and like to write, or have a passion for radio, television or social media, then this is an ideal programme for you. The BA Journalism is an exciting programme for University of Galway (reformed for 2019) which offers you an opportunity to gain highly coveted communication and media production skills while undertaking an Arts degree.

This degree combines a teacher training qualification with teaching practice throughout the duration of the programme. As part of the programme you will undertake a teaching placement in each year, completing 100 hours of teaching between years 1-3 and a furher 13 weeks a post-primary school in your fourth year.

These three BA programmes are part-time, evening (with some daytime options available), interdisciplinary degrees for mature applicants (21 years or older on 1 January in year of application).

The BA in Music at the University of Galway is Ireland’s newest undergraduate music degree. Archaeology is an exciting subject that studies past human societies through the material remains they left behind, investigating important developments in the human story over a long period of time. The subject investigates many important developments in the human story, such as the evolution of Homo Sapiens, the adoption of farming, early urbanism, and the origins of social complexity.

Studying how human beings have adapted to every conceivable environment and cultural circumstance, how different peoples grappled with challenges as basic as survival and as abstract as the mysteries of the cosmos, archaeology is about understanding the forces that have shaped human civilisation across the globe, and how this story is of relevance today.

Asian studies involves the study of the political, economic, societal and cultural factors and ideas shaping international politics, economy and culture in East Asia. This will prepare you for a career in foreign relations and global policy, or with Asia-Pacific oriented multinational corporations and international organisations

Celtic Civilisation offers an innovative perspective on early Irish culture and opens a rich world of myth, legend, poetry and tradition, revealing Ireland’s place in early Europe as well as its links with other Celtic regions.

As a student of Celtic Civilisation you will learn about the history of the Celtic peoples of Europe; fascinating legends; Ireland’s longstanding contacts with neighboring traditions; issues of gender and identity in medieval Irish society; and how Ireland assimilated European culture while in turn influencing it. 

This subject provides a comprehensive insight into the reality behind popular conceptions and misconceptions of the Celts in ancient, medieval, and modern incarnations. ‌By studying this subject, you will be encouraged to view Celtic literature and culture in a new light, and to appreciate the legacy of the Celts, as evidenced in the literatures, languages, beliefs, customs and archaeology of Europe.

Chinese Studies combines the study of Chinese language with various disciplines to develop your interest in and knowledge of the history, culture, economy, politics, religion and philosophy of China. It will provide you with exciting opportunities in study, research and careers. 

A wide range of subjects including Chinese language, culture, society and history are covered in this course. The programme is designed for absolute beginners so you don’t need any prior knowledge of Chinese to study with us.

You will investigate the foundations of western civilisation in the history, literature, philosophy and culture of the ancient Greeks and Romans, encountering figures such as Homer, Plato, Cicero and Caesar, whose works and achievements have inspired writers, artists, thinkers and politicians down to the present day. In first year Greek and Roman Civilization you will be introduced to the ancient world through the myths of the ancient Greeks and the fall of the Roman Republic.
