This practical journalism course focuses on developing multimedia skills to prepare students to work across all platforms: social, mobile, broadcast, digital and print journalism.

You will be trained to become a skilled digital content creator who can demonstrate essential skills and use of new technologies for the fast-moving 21st century media workplace. These includes smartphone photography and video journalism and the use of Adobe CC software for digital page production, social media campaigns and digital editing (sound and video). On completion of this course, you will have developed the production skills necessary to create content for a variety of genres: podcasting, radio, TV, video, photography, newspapers, magazines and online publications.

Students of the BA in Journalism and New Media learn core practical journalism skills and, through the study of two specialised subjects, develop their capacities to engage critically with society and the structures of power that operate within it.

This one-year course will develop journalism industry skills for use in a multi-platform environment. Students will learn various ways of storytelling including podcasting, radio, video, print, and online publication. Students on this course will be prepared for a career in multi-media journalism, learning key skills such as research, content creation and podcast production.

Podcasting is a powerful tool for adult learners, especially in the field of journalism. It offers flexibility, allowing learners to engage with content at their own pace and time. For those interested in journalism, podcasts provide real-world examples of storytelling, interviews, and news reporting. Podcasts also create opportunities for discussions on current events, media literacy, and critical thinking. Furthermore, adult learners can experiment with creating their own podcasts, enhancing skills like research, interviewing, and audio editing. Studying Education as a minor in combination with another subject offered at Ulster is an excellent introduction to a future career path in the education sector. It will provide you with an introduction to the main concepts and concerns of contemporary educational theory and practice in both Northern Ireland, the UK and internationally.

Taking English as a Minor will allow you to develop a critically-informed knowledge of English literature in its historical range and depth. Through the study of literature across different genres, you will hone the ability to analyse text and form critical arguments, both in spoken and written form.

In addition to compulsory modules, you can pursue your own interests through a range of optional modules including 'Restoration & 18th-century Literature’ in second year, or 'Words in Freedom: Modernist Revolution in Literature’ in third year, among others.

As a major subject programme (four modules per full-time year), Journalism at Ulster is combined with another, minor subject in the Arts (two modules per full-time year) to make up a full degree programme. There is a range of subjects to choose from as your minor: Education, English and History.

We present History in unique and exciting ways. You will learn mainly in interactive workshops rather than in lectures and seminars. You will create podcasts and digital presentations, design websites, organise conferences and produce research portfolios.

This exciting new course offers the best of both worlds - journalism and photography, offering you superb employment and third level progression opportunities. You will learn to tell compelling stories through writing, photography, film and radio. A variety of additional creative elements like scriptwriting, studio engineering, podcasting and creative visual work, are also explored.

Keyworker – Foundation Skills is a one-year QQI L5 course for those seeking to develop a career path in the essential role of Keyworker. Key working is a core role in the provision of individualised care to service users empowering them to be the drivers of their care planning, thereby facilitating them to achieve their own goals and developmental milestones. Key working is used throughout the social care sector to motivate service users to identify positive goals and improve their quality of life. This course will act as a foundational pathway to Higher Education to achieve a QQI Level 7/8 degree in a related area.

On completion of this three-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified laboratory analyst, with a QQI Level 7 Ordinary Bachelor of Science Degree - Laboratory Analyst.

You may then work in a laboratory environment in biopharma, chemical manufacturing, medical devices and diagnostics, food and drink, and analytical testing laboratories.

This programme is designed to give learners the knowledge and practical skills necessary to prepare them for both employment and further studies in a science-related field. The programme will also allow learners the opportunity to complete work experience in a laboratory environment where they can experience the job of a laboratory assistant. This programme is also ideal for learners who are considering further studies in such areas as Biological and Chemical Science, Food Science, Genetics or a Laboratory Apprenticeship programme.

The Laboratory Technician apprentice will be responsible for carrying out basic laboratory duties that may include sample collection, equipment calibration, solution preparation, stock control and glassware maintenance while conducting basic physical and analytical testing methods on raw materials, in-process or finished product. All work to be conducted and recorded in accordance with good laboratory practices.

With this two-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified laboratory technician with a QQI Level 6 Higher Certificate in Science - Laboratory Technician.

You may then work in a laboratory environment in biopharma, chemical manufacturing, medical devices and diagnostics, food and drink, and analytical testing laboratories.

The aim of this one year full time course is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge skill and competence to work independently and under supervision in a science laboratory and or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

The design studio is central to Landscape Architecture. You’ll spend most of your time in the studio, pursuing individual and small group project work. You’ll learn by doing design projects that allow you to develop creative skills and apply knowledge taught through lectures, seminars, drawing classes, field trips, reviews, readings, individual and group tutorials. In your third year you will also gain professional experience interning in a landscape related company / institution.
