The Music Performance and Industry Practice course has been designed to prepare learners for opportunities in the music industry. This is achieved by providing learners with essential music theory, an introduction to recording skills, music practice, event production, and broad insight into the music industry.

The students will gain knowledge of music theory and its practical application to musical styles and genres including writing their own songs. Students explore the structure of the music industry in addition to gaining practical skills in recording and producing music in a modern production environment. Students also learn how to plan and organise events as part of the course.

As Ireland’s only Avid Pro Tools Pro School (and one of only six in Europe), you will acquire official certification in Avid Pro Tools.

Alongside studio and live recording, this programme develops skills in critical listening and audio analysis, investigations of form and aural training, and music theory. You will also learn vital skills in the online promotion of music, project leadership, and marketing.

The Music Production Course fuses art and science to ensure students become fluent in the language and culture of music technology. An advanced program developed for those who want to hone and refine their skills. There is a focus on getting you ready to enter the competitive audio industry able to express yourself both technically and artistically.

Recording techniques are used in the studio, live and on location. Emerging trends are explored in audio technology, synthesis and sound design to make sure that your technique is fresh, vibrant and state-of-the-art. This course introduces students to the rudiments involved in producing music in live sound recording and/or static settings, either in a home studio or in a large recording studio. Students learn from musicians who have worked in the industry and who will impart to them their knowledge of the performance and technical perspectives involved in creating high quality recordings.

On this course students will study the technical operation of sound recording equipment and the related industry standard software techniques necessary to complete a recording.  In addition, students will study project management and develop business skills that will give them the skillset to allow them to gain employment in this area or advance to further and higher education.

Graduates will have the knowledge and skills needed to perform at a high-level in a number of modern technical environments, including: recording studios, video editing suites, and in live theatre. 

This honours degree course is designed for students wishing to build a career in the Music and Audio production industry. During the course, students will learn to compose, produce, and distribute music and audio for digital reproduction mediums. Students also develop the ability create, engineer, and promote music and audio-visual events using industry standard technologies and methods.

The programme produces graduates with the technical, creative, and professional skills required by employers in the music and audio industries. Graduates possess a broad awareness of the different roles in the industry and the experience required to take up employment on small or large-scale projects. They are confident self-starters that can collaborate well with others in both technical and creative capacities.

Our Certificate in Music Production for Games is available part-time over a one-year period. The aim of the course is to equip students with a high level of competence in specific skills for the areas of applications technology, games development, sound design, and much more.

You will develop music production skills in studio recording, mixing and post-production editing in our professional facilities. This is matched with specialist lessons in music sequencing, sound synthesis and music technology to help you explore your creative musical potential.

Practical projects will also enable you to learn about the world of live sound, events management and the music industry. This course features a high level of training in a wide range of industry standard music production software including Logic Pro®, Ableton Live® and Pro Tools®.

The undergraduate Music degree programme at Ulster University is based around four core elements: Performance, Composition, Musicology and Music Technology.

Year 1 is designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of musical styles, genres and disciplines enabling them to develop existing skills and interests as well as acquire a range of new ones. As a Major student, you'll take modules in Musicology and Performance Studies.

Year 2 allows students the opportunity to begin specialising by introducing a number of optional modules. As a Major student, you'll take modules in Musicology and Performance Studies.

Year 3 enables students to focus their degree programme in one or more related areas of specialist interest with a broad range of advanced level modules. Placement presents students the opportunity to take part in an internship with a local music or arts organisation while the Project options allow students to pursue an independent course of research or practical work in a chosen field of musical study.

This course explores theories of religion, the monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the religions of Asia and Africa, movements such as New Atheism, New Religious Movements and the interaction between religion and politics, science, or art.

The BFA major in musical theatre offers a conservatory and holistic approach to musical theatre training, one that not only concentrates on a participatory performance perspective, but also prepares the student for a wide and exciting range of careers available in the performing arts industry.

While performance remains an integral component of the programme, students are also prepared for the vast array of work that supports and produces performance, such as directing and staging, creating written material for performance, production, management, marketing and funding of the performing arts.

The degree produces a wide spectrum of transferable skills such as effective presentational technique, expertise in using the voice and the body as communicative instruments, interpretational and compositional competency with written texts, management, marketing and organisational skills.

This is an intensively hands-on course, aimed at talented students who already have a basic level of skill in the three ‘triple-threat’ areas: singing, dancing and acting.

The course combines personal skills training with group and teamwork, expressed through annual public performances in professional theatres. As well as working with highly qualified core staff, the students will meet professionals from all musical theatre fields, following up- to-the-minute trends and making contacts and networks for life.
