FET College Dhúlaigh is offering a one year top-up degree programme in Animation (BA Hons) in conjunction with the University of Wolverhampton (UK).  Accredited by the University of Wolverhampton, the course has been developed by the coordinator and tutors to be relevant to our students, the growing national animation industry, and its impact at home and abroad.  

This one-year, industry-led Level 8 Top-Up BA in Film & Television Production—accredited by the University of Wolverhampton—offers an intensive, hands-on bridge between academia and the professional screen industries. By collaborating with seasoned directors, producers, and crew, students produce both a live-action short and a documentary, replicating real-world production cycles from script to screen. Beyond technical mastery in areas like cinematography and sound design, the curriculum emphasizes leadership, digital literacy, and critical analysis. The program’s strong ties to the Irish film sector further bolster career prospects through guest lectures from industry leaders and high-value work placements at major production and post-production houses.

The BA (Honours) in Politics, Society and Media is a pioneering Level 8 degree that immerses students in the dynamic landscape of contemporary civic society. Designed for students who are passionate about making a meaningful contribution to the political and social environment, it offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of the forces that shape the world around them, and how, as media practitioners, they can communicate and advocate for change. It equips learners with the skills, knowledge and practical experience to make effective contributions to civic society, with an ethical framework for exercising critical judgement.

This innovative 4-year degree, delivered in partnership between BCFE (Years 1 & 2) and IADT (Years 3 & 4), is designed to place students at the forefront of the next generation of filmmaking. The program focuses on Immersive Media and Virtual Production, blending advanced creative vision with deep technical expertise. Students gain mastery over specialized fields including Extended Realities (XR), Virtual Production—utilizing real-time engines to merge physical and digital worlds—and high-level post-production management.

The B.A. in Applied Policing is the Foundation Programme for Garda Trainees. This Training Programme is delivered over 104 weeks leading to a B.A. in Applied Policing. The initial period of 34 weeks including two weeks annual leave takes place at The Garda College. Subsequent training takes place predominantly in selected Garda Divisions.

The Level 8 Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Care Practice is a four-year honors degree designed to equip students with the academic knowledge, ethical frameworks, and clinical skills required for a professional career in social care. The curriculum integrates rigorous theoretical modules in critical social sciences—including sociology, law, psychology, and social policy—with practical training in professional communication, research analysis, and reflective practice. A cornerstone of this degree is its focus on experiential learning, featuring two intensive 13-week blocks of professional practice placements. Through this combination of theory and hands-on clinical experience, students cultivate deep critical thinking skills, a comprehensive understanding of human interaction, and the capacity to respond both professionally and compassionately to the complex needs of individuals utilizing support services.

The DCU Bachelor of Arts Single Module (BASM) study option allows student to undertake study at degree level (level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications) for personal enjoyment or continual professional development (CPD) without having to commit to study towards an exit award.

Of specific interest to many Bachelor of Arts Single Module (BASM) students is that the History, Literature and Sociology modules are recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland for general registration in relation to the (post-primary level) teaching of History, English and CSPE respectively.

The Higher Certificate (Level 6) in Arts in Bar Supervision qualification is recognised worldwide, and aims to provide learners with professional craft and management skills, who wish to pursue a career in the industry. This course is also suitable for individuals who wish to advance in their current position.

Site visits, sector engagement and work placement form a core component of this two-year course.

This course is tailored for the barbering industry and include barbering techniques, cutting, beard shaping, fades, styling and finishing of men’s hair, colouring and perming men’s hair. There are also related theory subjects. 

Students will have an opportunity to work on male clients throughout the barbering course. Work placement is an integral part of the course and often leads to employment on successful completion of the course.

This Barbering course offers detailed skills training in all aspects of barbering and men’s hair grooming. You’ll learn practical skills and the underpinning theory and science to prepare you for a career in this occupational area, including cutting men’s hair, cutting men’s facial hair and shaving, and the essential underpinning knowledge.

Barbering offers many employment opportunities, and the course leads to an internationally-recognised qualification. You will have opportunities to develop your skills and build a portfolio of work that will help you to progress to employment.

This programme is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and competence to use barbering techniques within a salon/barber environment. You will acquire a range of barbering skills to include the use of tools such as clippers, scissors, razors, and combs. In addition to haircuts, you will be equipped to provide services like scalp massages, and eyebrow shaping, focusing on enhancing clients’ appearance and personal grooming. This course provides you with the skills required if you intend to run your own barbering business in the future.

Fishing Vessel (Basic Safety Training) Regulations, 2001 (S.I. 587 of 2001) require all fishing vessel crew members to undergo Basic Safety Training. This three day programme is run at all of BIM’s training centres and consists of the following:

STCW-PST Personal Survival Techniques
STCW-EFA Elementary First Aid
SKL–FPSA Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness (BIM non-certified course given in addition by BIM)

Students on this course will develop further skills, knowledge and competency to complete a range of basic welding tasks to industry standards and in line with Health and Safety requirements.

The BCL degree focuses on experiential learning and developing practical legal skills while also providing you with opportunities to engage with industry and the wider legal profession. In particular, the Moot Court module gives you the chance to practise your court-room skills and gain a real insight into law in action. DCU has its own Moot Court room which is where you will participate in mock trials and practise skills such as advocacy, presenting evidence or cross examination.
