Film Studies

If you enjoy watching a wide range of films from around the world and if you are interested in acquiring the critical and creative tools to analyse them in relation to questions of style, technology, society, and industry, then this may be the course for you. While you will learn about practical issues involved in film production, including how to write a script and how to produce short videos, the course is geared toward critical engagement with film and digital media. 

Do you want to work in the Film Industry? Then this Dynamic/ Practical/ Creative course is the one for you! This course is designed to prepare students to work in the Film and TV sector. Students are given access to an editing suite (iMac with Adobe Premiere Pro) four full days per week and access to HD video equipment, all week.

Students are taught a range of skills including scripting, storyboarding, camera skills and editing skills etc. There are individual and group projects on the course. Students are encouraged to produce short films on topics of interest to themselves, provided they fit within the given brief. The majority of this course is practical rather than theory based, which allows students to produce varied and substantial portfolios.

This exciting course has been created for people who have a passion for film making and storytelling on screen and have already started to experiment in these areas. This course will also assist enthusiastic students in developing the essential practical skills and knowledge required to work in the dynamic area of film, television, and screen production.

In this degree you will learn how the financial system works – how assets are traded, international markets are linked, government policy decisions affect the economy and how financial markets respond.

You will learn how to use analytical tools – including mathematics, deductive logic and applied statistics – to examine problems and devise logical solutions and be prepared, both intellectually and practically, for employment in the highly competitive and dynamic world of international finance.

In this degree, you will learn about how the financial system works – how assets such as gold, coffee and orange juice are traded, how international markets are linked and the impact of government decisions on markets.

Finance is concerned with the operation of financial markets and the valuation of financial assets, in particular in stock, bond, foreign exchange and interest rate markets. The BSc Finance is based equally on the subject areas of corporate finance and financial economics. This combined approach provides graduates with a thorough grounding in each area.

Graduates with Finance, Economics and Big Data skills are in high demand here in Ireland and overseas. This also opens up opportunities in a range of business careers including financial planning, banking, accounting, economics and management consulting. Postgraduate options include economics and finance. A highlight of the programme is the opportunity to undertake a three-to-six-month work experience placement as part of third year. Students can alternatively choose to study abroad on Erasmus. 

The aims of the degree are to produce graduates with developed mathematical, statistical and computing skills, and the ability to apply them to the quantitative analysis of industrial, commercial or financial business decisions. The programme also aims to produce graduates with sufficient mathematical, statistical and computing skills for them to undertake postgraduate work in these or related areas.

The BSc in Financial Mathematics and Economics (BSc in FME) programme is a four-year degree programme consisting of courses in mathematics, economics, statistics/probability, applied mathematics, accounting and business finance, and computer science. The programme’s aim is to equip students with expertise in quantitative subjects, with a particular focus on financial economics, actuarial mathematics and statistics.

The degree should appeal to people who enjoy mathematics and are interested in studying economics and other subjects in the financial area. (Please note that you do not have to study economics for the Leaving Certificate to be admitted to this course.)

The BA in Fine Art is designed for students who wish to work as cultural producers in the Fine Art sector. The course is focused primarily on acquiring the knowledge and skills that are needed to operate as a visual artist in a competitive environment, nationally and internationally.

There’s a strong emphasis on developing skills acquisition, creative intelligence and conceptual and critical thinking abilities, which are integrated with modules in Critical Theory and Professional Practice.

This is not a CAO entry course - course fees required - apply directly to the college.

The BTEC Fine Art course offers an exciting and challenging programme of study providing students with both essential subject knowledge and skills.

The course consists of a broad range of subjects from drawing techniques to 3D studies in ceramics and mixed media, printmaking, photography and contextual studies.

Students who progress into year two are encouraged to develop a more self-directed approach whilst engaging with tutors. This provides the opportunity to specialise in and explore chosen subjects further.

You will explore core practical skills including drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media which are essential skills to prepare you for art colleges. You will use your creative thinking, ideas, style and visual communication throughout the creation of your portfolio.

Our practical projects and exhibitions include opportunities to work with professional artists, and to experience the professional world of the artist.
