Learners with an ambition to study Science at Third Level, a love of science & maths and a willingness to work hard can apply for this course.

This Pre-University Science course was developed with DCU to meet the needs of students who wish to study science to degree level in university. The course will cater for three different groups of learners:

• Students who did not obtain the required Leaving Certificate points for their chosen Science course,
• Students who wish to acquire a foundation in Science subject areas and Mathematics before entry to University, A
• dult returnees to education.

Students who obtain an overall merit (65%) grade in the Pre-University course will gain a place on the majority of Science courses outlined below. However, some courses in DIT have higher and more specific requirements. The course prepares students for entry to the first year of the following Science Degree courses offered by the faculty of Health and Science in DCU.

This course gives students a broad base in Science with a wide range of modules covered. It includes Animal Anatomy and Physiology for those students who may be interested in applying to Veterinary Nursing.

Modules taught include the core science subjects - chemistry, physics and mathematics. The mathematics module is accepted for entry to higher education courses. These modules form the basis of all first year third level science programmes. In addition, students study exercise and fitness and anatomy and physiology which will give them a firm foundation upon which to start their college career.

This one year Pre University Teaching course is to enable the learner acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to engage with the education and training industry and environment gaining an appreciation of underpinning philosophies and requirements, to consider professional practice and development opportunities, and or to progress to further or higher education and training.

The aim of this programme is to provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to progress to a University Programme in the area of Veterinary Nursing/ Animal Science/ Science/ Agricultural Science. Students can also progress to Advanced Animal Science & Care at O Fiaich Institute of Further Education.

Precision engineering is involved with the design, manufacturing and measurement of highly specified parts for the medical, aerospace, automotive, oil and gas exploration and related industry.

Students learn how to work effectively with both manual and CNC machines to produce parts from an initial design to a final product. Parts are designed using CAD systems to develop solutions to engineering problems and when completed the accuracy will measure specialised measurement equipment such as co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM).

Unsure of where your interests lie? Want to explore human health science and maybe brush up on Maths or/and English?  This course will offer students who are enthusiastic about working in the science/health or medical office setting or who are interested in progression to further study in the areas of science/health science, a wide range of career options.

The Preparation for Leaving Certificate with ESOL Programme is a Transition Year course which will allow learners to come back to education and prepare for either the Leaving Certificate or a Further Education and Training Course. As such, it’s a starting point for all other courses in Pearse College and beyond.

Lero and CONFIRM Smart Manufacturing have partnered with the University of Limerick (UL) to deliver Ireland’s first qualification at level 10 (DEng) funded through the national apprenticeships programme: The Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng).

How a professional doctorate differs from a traditional doctorate
The traditional doctorate, the PDEng programme focuses on preparing candidates for an academic career and is thus focused on training people to rigorously address scientific problems which can result in a contribution to knowledge that can be published in the peer‐reviewed scientific literature.

Professional doctorates recognise the existence of research activities which can be described as professional practice. The context for this DEng programme is the practitioner workplace and the focus is on solving real‐world problems faced in the daily work‐place. The scope of these problems can be sufficiently large to be addressed in a significant piece of research planned and conducted over a period of time and which can ultimately result in a DEng award.

Process Instrumentation & Automation involves the measurement and control of physical quantities (temperature, level, pressure, flow and many others) used in advanced manufacturing systems.

Engineers use instrumentation and control to monitor and maintain processes for improved production, quality, and safety in manufacturing facilities in the Pharmaceutical, Food & Drinks, Water/Wastewater, Oil & Gas industries among others.
