This course also provides an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue degree programmes in universities or those wishing to progress onto Level 6 programmes or apprenticeships.

In this full-time one-year programme in Computer Networks with Software you will learn about the latest operating systems, computer hardware, software development and networking technologies, coupled with hands on practical experience. In addition, you will gain a strong foundation in cyber security.

Students will also have the opportunity to work with staff from the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) to participate in projects involving the real-world applications of the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and Data Analytics. This LOETB-TUS collaboration promotes problem-based learning while enabling the students to experience the creativity and innovation of a rapidly evolving sector.

This Level 5 Computer Programming course gives students an excellent grounding in computer programming. Students develop practical skills and can progress to our QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Computer Programming. The Level 6 course has an advanced second year entry links with TU Dublin Grangegorman, TU Dublin Blanchardstown and TU Dublin Tallaght, NCI, and Griffith College.

The Certificate in Computer Programming course also enables students to apply through the CAO directly to third level. This course has a high success rate in terms of students securing places in TU Dublin, NCI, Maynooth University, UCD and IADT.

Computer Science (Common Entry) offers exposure to a variety of subjects relating to different areas of computing such as general programming, knowledge of computer architecture, games modelling, and an understanding of the mathematical basis that underpins computing. Our well-equipped and modern laboratories will enable you to acquire practical experience and skills with confidence. You will follow a common first-year programme of study and then select one of the three BSc programmes during the second semester. During the first year you will become well-versed in a range of computing subjects, and therefore, can make better choices that suit your particular needs and interests.

You will learn about the basics of computing/software development, and then decide which of the specialisms you think best suits your personal interests, strengths and plans. Through the use of specialist streams, we can quickly react to industry trends, while always ensuring that you will become a strong programmer/software developer. 

Computer Science (Infrastructure) is about developing software and infrastructure for applications ranging from those on smart devices to those in global corporations. This course provides the skills required to build data centres and networks, and to develop software securely, individually and in teams.

You’ll gain a working knowledge of the components of a computer and a network, become familiar with the components of an operating system, and learn to administrate large distributed systems.
