The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work under supervision in range of social care settings or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

This Advanced Certificate course is suitable for those who have already successfully obtained a QQI Level 5 or equivalent qualification in Applied Social Studies or a relevant field of study. The course is designed to provide an understanding of the many roles of social care, to develop the learner’s knowledge and appreciation of the duties involved and skills required to work successfully in a social care setting. Some learners with potential for academic progression may select this as a route to Social Care degree courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology.

This course prepares graduates to work in social care providing support and assistance to vulnerable people in the community and in residential services. For example, social care workers gain employment working with groups such as children and young people at risk and/or who have been neglected and abused, people with disabilities and older people.

Completing a QQI Level 5 course in applied psychology and social studies can open doors to various career paths. It can be a stepping stone towards further education and training in psychology, counselling, social work, human services, community development or related fields.

This course is suitable for those who have a good knowledge of the Social Care and Disability sector and wish to extend their professional development in this sector.

This Level 6 course delves deeper into the subject matter, providing a more comprehensive understanding of social studies theories and practices.

The BSc in Applied Sports Science with Performance Technology prepares students to work in an emerging field of sports analysis. This course is underpinned with exercise science to provide students with the background knowledge of developing sports performance.

This programme is ideal for students who have an interest in sport, recreation, outdoor pursuits, or in coaching and instruction. It offers students the opportunity to acquire appropriate practical expertise and enables them to develop the competencies to be effective leaders in the sport industry and provide several  pathways through postgraduate study.

This programme aims to offer students the opportunity to complete year one of a common entry degree in Sports Science, with Tipperary ETB, before having a guaranteed progression route to years two to four with TUS Midwest (Thurles Campus).

Year one will provide students with the opportunity to begin to learn about anatomy, movement, nutrition, exercise, strength and conditioning, as they relate to the study of sport.

Having successfully completed year one of the degree, students will progress to year two of their chosen degree in one of the following:

• Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Sports Science with Strength and Conditioning
• Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Sports Science with Sport and Exercise Nutrition

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles and practical applications of nutrition and exercise in sports performance. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience during the course by working with populations of all ages, genders, and abilities through modules such as Nutrition Across the Lifecycle and The Female Athlete, as well as during work placement (or studying abroad) in the third year of the course.

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Sports Science with Strength and Conditioning offers an in-depth education on this growing area of interest, both in Ireland and internationally. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is becoming a central and key figure in preparing and advancing the fitness and performance status of the individual athlete and team both in professional sport and also in amateur and recreational sport.

The BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Science with Strength and Conditioning prepares students to work with children, youths, and adults in various sporting environments. This course focuses on the applied nature of exercise science.

The course content will be delivered through theory and practical classes. We place a significant emphasis on preparing students to be able to deliver the knowledge through practical coaching sessions. Over the four years, students will study the components of fitness, the principles of training, sports nutrition, sports psychology, learn how to analyse biomechanical movements and the science of sport.
