Software Design for Mobile Apps and Connected Devices is a course that teaches students how to design and develop software applications for mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, wearables, and IoT devices. The course covers topics such as user interface design, data management, networking, security, testing, and deployment. Students will learn how to use various tools and frameworks to create software solutions that are responsive, reliable, and user-friendly.

The BSc in Software Development is a three- year Level 7 degree programme designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to gain employment in the software development industry. More specifically, the programme will provide students with relevant skills and knowledge in the area of modern software development focusing on languages, techniques, tools and methodologies and their application to real world problems.

This programme gives you the skills and knowledge you need to design and build applications that people use every day, for the desktop computer, for the web and for mobile devices (such as smart phones and tablets). You will become proficient in the application of state-of-the-art technologies in areas such as cloud computing, machine learning, big data and data analytics. As a Software Developer, you will be involved in all stages of the application from start to finish.

This course provides a solid foundation in software development for web and mobile systems, and how to test and implement it into group projects. Critical thinking and communication skills are taught to provide students with the core soft skills required to work as part of a modern software engineering team. Students will specialise in the design, development, testing and evaluation of software systems with particular emphasis on the application of agile process development.

This course will equip students with the range of skills required to become competent IT managers or software developers. Modules for the first three years include a broad range of subjects and an industry work placement. IT Management involves the coordination of complex computer systems in organisations including the selection, installation and maintenance of all computing technologies. This is a critical role in any organisation as the efficient management of IT is vitally important for all aspects of a business. In Software Development, Year 4 concentrates on state-of-the-art, high-level software development topics such as: secure app development, data science, distributed systems and an extensive project.

This one-year, QQI Level 5 course is suited to people who are creative, analytical and logical and who are interested in computers and like solving real life problems. It equips the learner with the vocational skills and knowledge to train for a career in Software/App/Games Development/Programming and Testing. It gives learners the chance to design and code software apps, develop websites and database systems. Learners also enhance communication, leadership and interpersonal skills in the key group project based on agile development methodologies that are widely used in industry.

This course provides a foundation for learners who wish to gain employment in the field of Computers or who wish to continue their studies and progress to Higher Education.

The course is supported by F.I.T. (FastTrack to Information Technology), who provide supports such as CV writing and Interview Skills workshops along with mock interviews.

This course is designed to give the student a firm foundation in the skills required to develop software. Software development involves writing and testing computer programs to meet a customer's needs. Students are introduced to the basics of programming using the Java programming language. Once the basic principles of programming are understood, students move on to more advanced concepts using object-oriented programming languages. 

Throughout the Software Development course, there is a focus on the development of 'soft skills' such as problem solving, communications and teamwork. Students learn how to identify and document customer requirements. Programming is taught in a career-focused and interactive way.

The overall aim of the Software Development course is to provide the learner with the opportunity to design, develop and test software components and systems in a workplace environment, working as a team member under supervision, while contributing to the workflow for the finished product.

This Pre-University Computer Science course provides an entry point into the technology sector by teaching essential skills in software development and IT infrastructure. Supported by the FIT (Fast Track into IT) initiative, the curriculum covers computer programming (using Java, C#, PHP, JavaScript, and Visual Basic), website design, database maintenance, software architecture, and technical support. Students learn from sector-experienced staff and receive dedicated training in CV preparation and interview techniques, equipping them for direct employment in the thriving IT industry or progression to higher education.
