Accounting Technician Apprenticeship is a fantastic route to a career in professional accountancy. This work-based programme is delivered through KCETB Training Services, in conjunction with Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) which requires the apprentice to attend college onsite one day per week (off-the job training) at Carlow Institute, and work with a local employer (on-the-job training) on the other four days during term time.

Everything you learn will support and inform your work with your employer, providing you with the opportunity to apply newly gained knowledge and skills on a daily basis.

 This is a two year course leading to the qualification of a Professional Accounting Technician. An Accounting Technicians Ireland qualification is a job requirement for many employers. There is a growing demand in the marketplace for personnel who possess practical accounting skills combined with relevant computer experience, especially in computerised accounting systems. This Course aims to provide these essential practical accounting and computer skills to meet this growing need. Emphasis will be placed on the practical capabilities necessary for any accounting department in a modern business. The course is suited to students with numerical ability and an interest in accounting and computers. Students supplement their studies with work experience in a relevant area.

The aim of this full time course is to provide candidates with expertise, experience and knowledge in accounting, in the areas such as financial accounting and budgeting, costing and credit control, payroll and tax returns for various types of business.

Accounting Technicians will possess the knowledge, skills and competencies to either work on their own or alongside professional accountants. The programme has been designed to provide business with personnel who are skilled in accounting techniques.

The Accounting Technician Apprenticeship is a dual-education, two-year program combining four days of professional office work with one day of college study per week. Applicants undergo a competitive interview process with participating employers to secure a two-year contract starting each September. This work-based learning model provides a minimum annual salary of €27,593 and fully funded tuition fees

This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to work in the Accountancy or Financial Services sector. Places are awarded via a competitive interview process, where applicants who meet the Enhanced Eligibility Criteria (see below) are put forward to participating employers for consideration. If you are successful at interview stage, your new employer will issue you with a two-year contract and you start your apprenticeship in September of each year.

You will work four days a week in an office environment, and study one day a week at Rathmines College.

The Accounting Technician Apprenticeship is a two-year, work-based learning programme which leads to a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Accounting. Unlike college courses, an apprenticeship is an opportunity to earn money and become qualified while you are learning on-the-job. As an apprentice you will spend one day a week in Dunboyne College of Further Education during the academic year (off-the-job training) and work with an employer for the remaining four days (on-the-job training). Outside of term time you will be working with the employer five days a week (Monday – Friday). The rate of pay is agreed between you and your employer. The employer pays you a salary while you are being trained on-the-job and off-the-job.

This national programme leads to a level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate in Accounting and provides many advancement options such as exemptions from professional accountancy bodies and relevant third level colleges to complete further studies.

This will enable the learner to gain invaluable exposure to the role, while developing the academic skills to support a career as an Accounting Technician.

This course is aimed at students who are interested in pursuing a career in Accounting or Finance. Students will learn the key accounting concepts, principles of accounting and the knowledge and skills required to understand personal and business taxation regulations. They will gain an understanding of core business functions in management and law.

Accounting Technicians are qualified professionals who work at all levels of finance. Accounting Technicians are widely employed throughout the public sector, industry, business and private accountancy practices. They can perform many of the same functions as accountants and are qualified to prepare full financial accounts.

On this course you will gain increased earning power, opportunity, mobility and in-demand financial skills with this island-wide, industry-recognised qualification for Accounting Technicians. Learners are schooled in the modern accounting practices, which qualifies them as professional Accounting Technicians.

BSc (Hons) Accounting with Computing offers you the opportunity to take Accounting as a Major subject with Computing as a Minor subject. By studying Accounting as a major you will develop skills in financial accounting, management accounting, digital accounting and analytics and audit. By studying Computing as a minor, you will develop skills on managing the business’ computer hardware, network operations and cyber security.
