A highly practical course focused on the key skills and knowledge needed to carry out a range of ecological field survey methods. Learners will be able to demonstrate strategies and practices to help foster a more environmentally-friendly society.

This unique course will be delivered at Killarney National Park Education Centre, in the heart of Ireland’s premier National Park.

As an established field studies centre run by Kerry ETB and The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), the Education Centre will provide an ideal location for the Level 5 Ecology course.

Many of the practical elements of the course will either be delivered in the variety of habitats of the National Park or close by on the peninsulas of Iveragh, Dingle and Beara or in the Burren.

Some aspects of the course such as Team Building & Mountain Skills will be delivered at Cappanalea, the National Outdoor Education & Training Centre. The team delivering the course are all experienced ecologists and field-studies tutors. Both Centres are fully equipped with first-class facilities and professional equipment.

The four-year programme allows students to lay firm foundations in the first two years, with wide-ranging modules on medieval and modern history, Irish, European, American, environmental and global history, as well as on historical methods and approaches. This course offers the opportunity to engage in depth with questions of metaphysics (about the fundamental nature of reality), epistemology (the theory of knowledge), ethics (theories of right and wrong), political philosophy (the nature of the just state), philosophy of religion (reasoning about God), philosophy of mind (questions about thought, language and reason) and various other areas. We teach courses which have both systematic and historical emphases and in the higher years students can choose options and get to write a thesis on a topic of their own choice.

This course is delivered collaboratively with Whitehall College of Further Education and Dublin City University (DCU). Learners will spend one day a week in DCU as two modules will be taught in DCU at first year degree level. The course aims to provide a foundation for students who wish to progress to the Degree in Education and Training in DCU.

This four-year (Level 8) honours degree is accredited by the Teaching Council and will enable graduates to teach both Art and Design and Communication Graphics in Irish post-primary schools. This unique initial teacher education programme is designed to ensure that students attain the skills, knowledge and practice to become excellent teachers of both Art and Design and Communication Graphics. 

During the programme, students will develop their creativity and learn and apply emerging digital technologies to enable them to master these subjects. Projects focused on design, art techniques, CAD and graphics ensures that students can gradually gain the confidence, skills and competence to independently teach these subject to the highest level and standards.

This is a degree course allows you to combine the study of mathematics with computer science and post-primary teaching education. This is a four year concurrent initial teacher education programme and includes a number of school placement opportunities throughout the course. At the end of this four year course graduates will be eligible to teach computer science and mathematics
