This Level 6 course enables our Level 5 Computer Programming students to progress and develop their programming skills in C++, Java and Visual Studio 2010. Successful graduates from this course may attain advanced entry to second year Computer Science at DIT, ITT, NCI, ITB and Griffith College. The core areas of the Programming Course are Project Management, Windows Programming Programming, OOP (C++) and Software Management (Java ).

This course will teach you how to sail and windsurf, drive a powerboat and paddle in a kayak on the river and sea. It allows you to become a Level 1 Kayaking Instructor, a Lowland Leader and a National Powerboat Certified Skipper, helping connect people to both coastal and forest environments. It will also give you the skills to pursue pathways toward both sailing and windsurfing instructorships after the course if you wish.

This course provides students with education and training to work within the area of Agricultural Technology. The focus of this course is firmly on the provision of skilled technicians for the farm machinery industry in Ireland. Course content includes tractor engineering and workshop process, machinery operation, electrical and electronic technology, administration and management, engineering science and mathematics, engineering drawing and CAD and computer studies, project and industrial placement together with a high degree of personal and practical skills. This programme has been designed to enable participants to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to under-stand mechanical principles applied to engines, machines, hand and power tools including focus, torque, pressure, power, horse-power, gears and belt speed and to be able to make compassion between diesel and petrol engines. On completion participants will be able to describe the component system associated with a tractor engine being able to assess a range of fuel, oil and grease lubrication and use hand and power tools for nuts and bolts. Carrying out a range of basic electrical maintenance and performing 50 hour and 500 hour service.

Agricultural mechanics are concerned with fault-finding, repair, overhaul and maintenance of farm tractors and farm machinery. These farm machines could include forage harvesters, balers, bale wrappers, mowers, combine harvesters, crop-sprayers, fertiliser distributors, diet feeders, tillage and slurry handling equipment.

Their skills overlap with those of other crafts within the motor family of crafts, therefore they are equipped to carry out some repair work on ATVs (All Terrain Vehicle– Quads), light and heavy commercial vehicles, earth moving equipment, forklift trucks and other vehicles. Besides the normal agricultural tractor and machinery garages, some large agricultural contracting firms employ their own agricultural mechanics. MTU is the only Technological University or Institute of Technology in the country which offers craft level apprenticeship courses in agricultural mechanics. Our facilities give apprentices a unique opportunity to experience the state-of-the-art technology currently being employed in the agricultural sector.

This course provides young people the knowledge and skills required for:

• Working in the farm machinery industry e.g., agricultural contractors, fabricators and machinery sales, etc
• Running an agricultural contracting business
• Transferring to Year 2 of the B Eng (Agriculture) in IT Tralee
