The undergraduate Visual Art programme at SETU Waterford offers students the opportunity to work broadly and experimental across a wide range of fine art media and practices, these include; drawing, painting, sculpture, print-making, photography, performance, video and digital media.

If you have a desire to combine your artistic flare with digital skills then this is the course for you.

Students are introduced to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. No previous computer skills are required.

This course can be used as a portfolio preparation course of both traditional art and digital art. This can help students prepare a portfolio to apply for third level courses.

Visual Communication is the art of problem- solving and communication through the use of type, space, and image. It presents the idea that a graphic message has the power to inform, educate, or persuade a person or audience. It can be presented as a still image, or motion graphics, including sound, and in some cases, interactive activity.

You will produce artwork for print, interface design, motion graphics, illustration, photography, typography, packaging, branding, advertising campaigns and much more!

The three-year course is designed to facilitate a transition from novice student to creative practitioner. Students are taught a variety of design and pratical skills to achieve this.

This highly practical course features a studio environment where students complete projects in a variety of 2D design disciplines, such as: branding; illustration; packaging; typography; advertising; layout; signage; websites; mobile devices; games; moving image video and animation.

Visual Communication and Design is a problem-solving practice that uses image, text, print and screen to communicate messages. This discipline originates from graphic design and now incorporates the traditional skills of drawing, printing, photography, typography and other graphic processes with the new digital realms of video, web and animation. 

The BA in Visual Culture offers a unique opportunity to study the history, theory and analysis of art, design, architecture, fashion and screen culture in the setting of a leading art and design college. The programme is suitable for anyone with a broad interest in history, culture and society.

Visual merchandising is the practice in the retail industry of developing floor plans and three-dimensional displays to maximise sales.

You’ll develop mastery in the theory and strategies of visual merchandising, practical competence in the skills needed for retail display, and an understanding of brand image and consumer behaviour and be able to operate at a high level in the retail industry.

This programme will allow you to develop a range of skills for professional vocal performance in a variety of contexts.  You will also develop your scholarly knowledge and inquiry through engaging academic studies focused on singing and artistic practice in educational, social, community and health settings.

You will focus and advance your vocal performance practice through individual voice lessons combined with group performance, ensemble and musicianship classes. Vocalists engaged in this course at the Irish World Academy will explore a range of vocal styles and traditions. Students enter the programme from popular (CCM), music theatre/stage school, singer/songwriter, folk, sacred or choral backgrounds (among others). You will find that the core aspects of the programme will support your development across multiple styles, broadening your singing and developing functional awareness of your instrument.

This Web and Digital Media course will respond to your needs by providing you with a strong foundation for entry into the online digital media sector. A practical approach to teaching and learning is taken and assessments are modelled on industry practices.

This course is designed to equip students with the specialist skills to design and develop industry-standard multimedia content, including digital graphics and illustrations, websites, animations and video games. This course is particularly suited to those who have an interest in computer graphics and web-based multimedia.

Successful students will develop a creative flair for developing multimedia-rich digital content, as well as the software design, project management and general computer skills necessary for future success in this fast-changing environment.

This course provides participants with skills and competencies to work in a wide range of eBusiness contexts or continue on to higher education and training. The total credit value required for this certificate is 120 credits. This course also offers learners an opportunity to gain City & Guilds accreditation.
