This Work-Based-Learning Hospitality Management honours degree programme will provide learners already working within the hospitality industry with advanced knowledge, skills and abilities required to grow their career within the wider tourism and hospitality sector; and contribute to the industry’s evolving needs through enhanced professionalism.

The programme is designed by theme with the course flow reflective of the career journey the learner will take, with an emphasis on Operations, Business Processes and Strategy. A central component is the incorporation of Work-Based-Learning (WBL) projects bespoke to the learner’s workplace, which utilises the workplace as a legitimate and immersive learning environment.

The term Hospitality Management is most commonly associated with Hotels but also includes careers in entertainment venues, restaurants, bars and casual-dining, event management and contract catering.

This four year course is designed to equip graduates with a broad range of business skills combined with a thorough knowledge of the hospitality environment.

The aim of this Hospitality Management degree is to develop the skills and competencies of students to become a supervisor or manager in the tourism sector. This three-year honours degree programme is designed to enable you to experience a broad education in hospitality and tourism studies. This course will empower you to embark on an exciting career with the opportunity to travel far and wide with your qualifications. Career opportunities include roles in the hotel industry, bars and clubs, as well as cruise ships, airlines and catering companies. 

This is an exciting course, which includes a compulsory overseas work placement. You will study the full suite of topics related to managing hospitality at the highest level, including bar, restaurant, front office and food and beverage management. Tourism is one the largest indigenous employers in Ireland, with 230,000 people employed in the industry. Students take two work placements during this course, in the summer of 2nd year and in the summer of 3rd year.

Cabin Crew Operations:
With this qualification you'll gain an insight in the basic operations of a flight attendant, learning the skills needed to make announcements while on-board, respond to emergency situations and manage to flow of the passengers.

Barista Skills:
With this qualification you'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to prepare and serve hot and cold drinks in any environment.

The Hotel and Catering course creates a learning environment in which the emphasis is on the practical application of the skills necessary to work in the dynamic and ever-changing sectors of food and beverage, accommodation and food preparation. Students will be given the opportunity to gain EHAI (Environmental Health Association of Ireland) certification in Food Safety. This certificate is valid for five years and it is a legal requirement for anyone working with food in a range of sectors to hold such certification.

You will learn practical skills such as food preparation, accommodation techniques and hospitality, and a range of business skills to support your career ambitions. Hotel & Hospitality Operations is a PLC Work-Based programme, and part of your study will include work placements with our Hotel and Hospitality partners, where you will work with experienced colleagues, and learn practical skills in the business context. This programme leads to a qualification that will be your passport to exciting careers in the world of hospitality operations and management, including options to travel and to progress to Higher Education, and to progress to Level 6 Supervisory Management at Carlow Institute.

If you are enthusiastic about working in the tourism and hospitality sector, this course offers extensive customer service and front office reception skills training.

You will have a mixture of classroom-based modules, customer service skills and role play practice. You will have opportunities to develop skills such as teamwork, communications and time management. There will also be opportunities for relevant work experience. You will be expected to complete assignments and exams throughout the year. Course work will consist of a combination of onsite & online learning. Visits are also arranged to businesses and events during the year.

his Programme is designed to provide you with the necessary knowledge, skills, and expertise essential for a senior managerial role within the hotel industry. Emphasizing a strategic perspective on managing people, it equips managers to comprehend the industry comprehensively.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Hotel Management further enhances learners' core competencies, strategic acumen, and in-depth understanding of hotel management principles.

This programme offers those currently employed or seeking employment in the hotel industry the opportunity to pursue a degree in hotel management while simultaneously working with their sponsoring employer. Each year the programme will comprise of the delivery of 60 credits of study through a blended learning approach. This programme will require students to spend two blocks of four weeks per annum at MTU Kerry North Campus’ state-of-the-art facilities in the Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Department. During this period a number of modules will be delivered. The remaining modules will be delivered online and through work-based learning.

An exit award, the Higher Certificate in Hotel Supervisory Management, is available after successful completion of year two.

This course aims to prepare students for employment in Human Resource (HR) departments in a wide variety of companies throughout Ireland. Most major companies have an HR department, and smaller companies usually have an employee whose job is to look after HR issues such as recruitment, staff training and development, labour law, the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees, and other general Industrial Relations issues.

The specialist HR related modules of this course provide a comprehensive introduction to the theories and applications of HR. This enables graduates to seek immediate employment in a range of HR departments. They will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competence to provide effective support in HR functions, such as recruitment, staff development, employee relations, and legal compliance.

The Human Health and Disease degree trains students for work in the field of biomedical research. It brings to life the fascinating connections between structure and function in the human body and explores the health and disease continuum in detail, including teaching on how medical therapies act to treat or even prevent disease.

As an example, understanding brain structure and biochemistry allows us to appreciate how neurons communicate and this in turn is helping biomedical researchers and clinicians to identify new and effective ways to treat and prevent diseases such as dementia.

This course has been designed in conjunction with universities, based upon the QQI entry requirements for science-based degrees.
