This Advanced Certificate in Business Management and Information Systems is designed to provide learners with a portfolio of skills required in the financing, planning, marketing and management of a small business. It provides a solid foundation in the skills, competencies and knowledge required to assess, plan, implement and evaluate a business structure.

This course enables learners to develop their academic, practical and analytical skills in the area of business management. The course consists of academic study, practical workshops, field study visits and a range of assignments. There is a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship throughout the course. Graduates may proceed to employment, third level study or set up their own businesses.

Students will also have the opportunity to engage in the Erasmus+ Programme and travel abroad.

An essential challenge for businesses in Ireland is how they can connect the capabilities of our workforce to contribute to solutions for people who are largely in markets outside Ireland, across the EU and the wider global community. Business needs graduates who can both understand the fundamentals of how to create value for customers and how to translate them into solutions and services that fit the needs of diverse cultures.

This course is designed to: Provide learners with essential business skills, including planning, financial management, and leadership. Develop expertise in public relations to build strong brand identities and communicate effectively. Teach practical digital marketing strategies, including social media management and online campaign creation. Enhance problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking through hands-on projects and real-world applications.

The Business Studies degree course is designed to give you an introduction to the foundations of business and guide you to a specialisation in economics, management, finance, marketing, HR or business analytics.

The four-year course includes an optional 11-month paid work placement that gives you the opportunity to experience working in a real business environment. Alternatively, you can opt to spend a year at one of our partner universities in Europe.

The BA (Hons) in Business is designed to give a clearly structured business education that provides a solid foundation for success in a business career. This programme provides a strong grounding in fundamental business concepts, ideas, practices and methodologies. 

The Bachelor of Business (Level 7, 180 ECTS) programme is designed to develop knowledge and skills in the area of general business, marketing, accounting and IT that are in demand in the current labour market.

In addition, students will benefit from gaining an understanding of the vital role that effective leadership and communication have in business along with acquiring insights into human resource management, economics, innovation and entrepreneurship.

This course equips students with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of business and commerce. It encompasses the study of fundamental principles, theories, and practices related to economics, finance, management, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

This part-time programme is designed for mature students, with work experience, who wish to return to education to complete a diploma or degree in Business Studies while continuing to work. Lecture attendance is once a month on Friday and Saturday from 9am-5pm.

Students on the Diploma and Bachelor of Business Studies attend the UCD Belfield Campus for six weekends over the course of the academic year. Our students travel from all over Ireland, and abroad, to attend campus lectures given by leading experts. The campus experience is considered a key component of the programme where our students can interact with their classmates, lecturers, and avail of the University’s facilities.

If you decide to take up a place on our programme you will be appointed a Learning Support Officer who will be the main point of contact for you throughout your studies.

After the first two years, successful participants will be awarded a Diploma in Business Studies (NFQ Level 7) and, after a further two years, a Bachelor of Business Studies Hons (NFQ Level 8).

The Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) programme will provide you with a broad business education. You will study the core business principles of accounting, economics, risk management and insurance, human resource management and marketing - specialising in one area as your “major” in the second semester of Year 2. Theory will be brought to life through work on practical business projects in addition to an eight month work placement in industry.

If you are accepted into LM050 you must first choose which programme you would like to study. This will influence the modules and pathways available to you throughout your time studying. The available programmes are:

The BA (Hons) Business Studies programme provides each student with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of modern business studies subjects and establishes a firm foundation for the development of a career in the business professions.

The programme is structured in a way which provides each student with the opportunity to study for either a general or a specialist Honours degree in Business Studies. The programme offers students the choice of four options for the completion of their Honours Degree.

This course is designed to specifically develop and enhance the ability of students to recognise, analyse and solve business problems, often against a background of economic, social and technological change. The programme is designed to be academically coherent and intellectually demanding. 

The one-year course in the Certificate in Business Studies (Level 5) will offer students an opportunity to explore a wide range of business-related subjects, allowing students to develop a comprehensive foundation in the key elements of business.

Upon successful competition of this course, students can progress directly into our Advanced Certificate in Business Studies Level 6.

This course is designed to help learners develop the essential administrative, accounting and financial knowledge and skills which form the basis for a career in industry, commerce or the public service. The course comprises both theoretical and practical modules, and learners will gain an understanding of both manual and integrated book keeping and payroll software.

The course gives learners a solid foundation in the academic, practical and personal skills required for progression to further or higher education or directly to a career in the business area.

The aim of this one year full time course is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently and under supervision in a range of business sectors and contexts and or to progress to further and or higher education and training.
