This General Learning Programme aims to provide a foundation in subjects which students may wish to study at Third Level. It also introduces students to methods of study, writing skills and research skills that are required for successful participation in Third Level education. While graduates of this course may apply to any Third Level Institute, Plunket College of Further Education is a partner to the Trinity Access Programme (TAP). Our students visit Trinity College to engage in a number of “taster activities” throughout the academic year, including library visits, a student shadowing day and attendance at a number of lectures.

This one year course aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop essential knowledge and practical skills to work in the rapidly growing Construction and Renewable Energy sector who wish to seek entry to Apprenticeships / SOLAS (FAS) / Further Training. It also prepares students for progression to third-level. It gives students a taste of all the main construction trades including carpentry & joinery and building construction. Students will also gain significant on-site experience with some of the largest construction companies in the area.

Students will study Food Science and Technology, Menu Planning and Applied Nutrition, Menu Design, Word Processing and Personal Effectiveness. Students will gain a knowledge and understanding of Meal Service and the procedures of service. They will prepare food and cuisines from around the world learning about world cuisines, cultural influences and traditions.

This practical, hands-on course introduces you to the core skills, tools, and techniques used in the construction industry. You will learn through real projects in wood fabrication, building services, hard landscape construction, and renewable energy systems, while developing essential workplace skills in health and safety, communication, and personal effectiveness.

Designed as a solid first step toward an apprenticeship or further training, this course builds the confidence and experience needed to start your career in the construction sector.

Students are given the opportunity to identify the components of a computer and learn how they work. As part of this course, students will be required to assemble and disassemble a personal computer (PC), troubleshoot PC hardware and software problems, and build and maintain a peer-to-peer local area network. Throughout the course, there is a focus on the development of 'soft skills' such as problem solving, communication, and teamwork. All subjects are taught in a career-focused and interactive way.

The aim of our Pre-University Teaching course is to introduce students to the necessary knowledge and skills for a career in education or to reskill as a trainer in their own work context. The course is designed to develop a foundation of knowledge in the field of education and training, with a focus on interpersonal and group behavior, training and development contexts, intercultural studies, and psychology. Students will also develop personal and professional skills, such as effective communication, research and study skills, and work experience.

This programme is ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in education, from early childhood education to higher education, or those who want to develop the skills and knowledge to take on a training role in any employment context.

This course would suit applicants with a passion for working with animals, a willingness to work hard and an interest in biology.
