The aim of this one year full time course is to provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings and / or to progress to further or higher education and training.

Students on this one-year programme will gain practical experience in healthcare clinical settings which, combined with an insight into theories relating to the nursing profession, will enable them to deliver high standards of care. Furthermore, this course will facilitate progression to third-level Nursing and Health-Science and other Healthcare programmes.

This course is designed to combine aspects of nursing theory and practical aspects of clinical nursing experience. Students are afforded the opportunity to explore and gain entry to the different programmes leading to registration with NMBI and the English Nursing Board (ENB).

The purpose of this programme is to prepare the student for all aspects of nursing. The student is introduced to a wide variety of modules with a work placement element to the programme, which gives the student the opportunity and the experience of working in a setting of their choice under supervision.

The programme also prepares the students for progression to third level with UCAS and CAO preparation.

Nursing Studies is a one-year course for students wishing to train as Nurses both here in Ireland and in the UK. On completion of this course students can apply to Nursing Degree courses through the QQI entry system. A Nursing Studies QQI Level 5 course serves as a foundation step towards pursuing a career in nursing. It provides students with essential knowledge, skills and competencies needed to enter nursing education programs such as Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

The course includes a variety of classroom-based subjects, clinical practical skills, mandatory work placement and independent study. Assessments and assignments are continuous throughout the year. Academic learning consists of a combination of onsite and self-directed learning.

The purpose of the Nursing Studies - Maternity Care course is to provide students with a clear understanding of the academic requirements, personal qualities and charac­teristics necessary for a successful career in midwifery. The focus of the Nursing Studies - Maternity Care course is to prepare students for progression to Midwifery or Nursing Degree Programmes. Students will gain the skills to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings. The course combines a wide range of modules designed to give students an overview of topics required for midwifery and nursing, with a work placement element, which students arrange in a healthcare setting of their choice. Students are provided with a unique insight into careers in midwifery, nursing and caring professions. The course in Nursing Studies - Maternity Care also prepares students for academic studies, interviews and career progression.
