This three-year degree programme is focused on mathematical and statistical approaches for quantitative management. Mathematics and statistics are core to most modern-day science and have important applications in industry and commerce. The concepts introduced in this pathway span from deriving sound inference from limited or large amounts of data to the mathematical modelling and solution to problems in the organisation and management of complex systems in industry and commerce. The skills acquired include formulating problems in mathematical and/or statistical terms, and expressing solutions in a form intelligible to lay people.

This degree provides students with a particular set of mathematical skills that are ideal for work in the financial services technology sector. The course is a partnership with industry and includes project work related to capital markets and capital market instruments.

Our students take things apart, figure out how they work and how to fix or improve them, then put them back together again. You’ll get to use 3D printers and other advanced tools in DCU’s state-of-the-art labs, while also absorbing engineering theory. It is at heart a maths-based course, but you’ll also gain extensive skills and knowledge in engineering mechanics, computer simulation and analysis, design and manufacture, and project management.

In third year, you’ll do an eight-month work placement in industry and you also have the opportunity to study abroad. And you can extend your undergraduate BEng programme by a year to complete a masters degree.

This 4 Year BEng Hons course is offered at the Magee campus has been designed with industry leaders to address the future needs of industry. Analytical and communication skills are developed with an emphasis on computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacture (CAM). Transitioning to zero carbon is one of the biggest challenges faced by humanity. Students who do this innovative programme will be ready to tackle the huge challenges thrown up by climate change, while also being mindful of the environmental impact of any engineering work they do.

This programme merges practical engineering with theory. It provides rigorous engineering training and will be accredited by Engineers Ireland, but it also encompasses extensive learning around climate and sustainability issues. If you care deeply about the environment, but would also like to finish university as a mechanical engineer with additional skills in sustainability, this is the perfect course for you.

A mechanical automation and maintenance fitter will be involved in plant and machinery installation; maintenance and repairs; replacement of broken or working parts; adjustment; servicing and checking components; and equipment component replacement. A fitter will also fabricate parts using machine tools.

On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified mechanical automation and maintenance fitter, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft - Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting.

The Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter (MAMF) program provides comprehensive training in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial plant and machinery. Students develop essential hands-on skills in servicing complex mechanical systems and replacing critical components, with a heavy emphasis on technical precision and safety standards. Beyond mechanical proficiency, the course fosters vital professional attributes such as analytical problem-solving, project planning, and the ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.

This course has a strong emphasis on the practical side of mechanical engineering, exposing the student to many “hands on” modules in workshops and laboratories. Modules on the course are grouped into streams that run over the three years: Workshop Practice, Mechatronics, Mechanical Design and Computer Aided Engineering, Mechanics, Thermofluids, Materials, Management, Projects, Mathematics and Elective Options. 

Design and project work is a major feature of the course. The Innovative Project Development modules in Year 3 enable students, working in teams, to bring a concept from the idea stage through to a finished prototype, considering the technical performance and commercial potential of their designs.

There is a mixture of continuous assessment and a series of semesterised exams. In the final year each student undertakes an individual project involving research, design, prototype development and experimental verification to meet a real need.
