The degree explores  the relationship between the theory and practice of Drama and Theatre to discover how and why they work. English Literature

English Literature covers a broad range of literatures written in the English language, from Chaucer to the present day. The aim of the course is to help students acquire a thorough knowledge of the history of differing literatures while also enabling them to develop a sophisticated critical consciousness and an awareness of critical and cultural theory.

History

The History programme combines the strength of a broad-based programme in the first two years, introducing all students to the sheer diversity of historical studies, with the freedom to explore areas of particular interest to individual students in the final two years. The first and second years provide a range of modules covering medieval and modern periods, including Irish, European, and American history, as well as some modules exploring the skills and methods which historians use, and the kinds of debates in which historians engage.

You will work in small groups to debate the topics that arise in lectures and to create short films and documentaries. Our students are active in many different societies, including DU Film Society and the student-run film magazine, Trinity Film Review.

Students combine this subject with their choice of French or Spanish.

Graduates with Finance, Economics and Big Data skills are in high demand here in Ireland and overseas. Postgraduate options include economics and finance. A highlight of the programme is the opportunity to undertake a three-to-six-month work experience placement as part of third year. Students can alternatively choose to study abroad on Erasmus. 

Finance is about making and managing money. It can involve investing in the stock market, trading in currencies and derivatives, or making lending decisions in banks. Students who study the BSc Finance with a Year in Industry degree will gain the skills and knowledge that are needed to succeed in the financial industry.

A placement year with a financial institution is integrated into this degree.

This programme should enable students to progress quickly to middle management positions in the Financial Services Industry or to progress to Further or Higher Education.

The aims of the degree are to produce graduates with developed mathematical, statistical and computing skills, and the ability to apply them to the quantitative analysis of industrial, commercial or financial business decisions.
