Accounting Technician Apprenticeship is a fantastic route to a career in professional accountancy. This work-based programme is delivered through KCETB Training Services, in conjunction with Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) which requires the apprentice to attend college onsite one day per week (off-the job training) at Carlow Institute, and work with a local employer (on-the-job training) on the other four days during term time.

Everything you learn will support and inform your work with your employer, providing you with the opportunity to apply newly gained knowledge and skills on a daily basis.

The Accounting Technician Apprenticeship is a dual-education, two-year program combining four days of professional office work with one day of college study per week. Applicants undergo a competitive interview process with participating employers to secure a two-year contract starting each September. This work-based learning model provides a minimum annual salary of €27,593 and fully funded tuition fees

This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to work in the Accountancy or Financial Services sector. Places are awarded via a competitive interview process, where applicants who meet the Enhanced Eligibility Criteria (see below) are put forward to participating employers for consideration. If you are successful at interview stage, your new employer will issue you with a two-year contract and you start your apprenticeship in September of each year.

You will work four days a week in an office environment, and study one day a week at Rathmines College.

The Accounting Technician Apprenticeship is a two-year, work-based learning programme which leads to a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Accounting. Unlike college courses, an apprenticeship is an opportunity to earn money and become qualified while you are learning on-the-job. As an apprentice you will spend one day a week in Dunboyne College of Further Education during the academic year (off-the-job training) and work with an employer for the remaining four days (on-the-job training). Outside of term time you will be working with the employer five days a week (Monday – Friday). The rate of pay is agreed between you and your employer. The employer pays you a salary while you are being trained on-the-job and off-the-job.

This national programme leads to a level 6 QQI Advanced Certificate in Accounting and provides many advancement options such as exemptions from professional accountancy bodies and relevant third level colleges to complete further studies.

This will enable the learner to gain invaluable exposure to the role, while developing the academic skills to support a career as an Accounting Technician.

They will gain an understanding of core business functions in management and law.

Accounting Technicians are widely employed throughout the public sector, industry, business and private accountancy practices. They can perform many of the same functions as accountants and are qualified to prepare full financial accounts.

BSc (Hons) Accounting with Computing offers you the opportunity to take Accounting as a Major subject with Computing as a Minor subject. By studying Accounting as a major you will develop skills in financial accounting, management accounting, digital accounting and analytics and audit. By studying Computing as a minor, you will develop skills on managing the business’ computer hardware, network operations and cyber security.
