This three-year course is designed to produce nursing graduates who will have the skills to respond to the changing needs of adults who require nursing care within a variety of rapidly changing healthcare environments.

Successful students will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) which will permit them to practice as a Registered Nurse (Adult) in the United Kingdom.

Note: Following the issue of guidance by the Department of Health NI, the tuition fee for this course is fully funded by the Department of Health for students who have been habitually resident in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland for three years prior to the commencement of the course.

Intellectual disability can affect two aspects of people’s lives – their intellectual functioning (such as learning, problem solving, judgement) and their adaptive functioning (in activities of daily life such as communication and independent living). This three-year course is designed to prepare you for the professional role of a registered Nurse (Mental Health) who will have the skills to respond to the mental health needs of individuals in partnership with them, their families, significant others and their community. This course introduces the learner to the role of the nurse and midwife and provides an understanding of the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career in the nursing/midwifery profession. Practical elements and work experience enable the learner to gain hands on experience and a real insight into the caring profession.

This award provides a link to Nursing / Midwifery Degree programmes in Ireland and the United Kingdom through the CAO and UCAS systems.

The programme is delivered through a blended learning design with a mixture of practical clinical learning, traditional classroom-based, simulation and online learning. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of becoming a registered nurse through studying and completing modules in professional practice, nursing practice and physical and human sciences. 

This One Year, full time, QQI Level 5 Course aims to prepare the Learner to work with people as part of a Multidisciplinary team within Acute Hospital, respite & social care, and community residential care settings.

Learners will be provided with opportunities to develop the necessary foundational theoretical and Skills based knowledge, to enable them to work competently within Healthcare Sector.

You will be supported by our team of qualified Professionals, comprising: Registered Nurses, Sports, Psychology & Social Care Professionals, Physical Therapists, Professional Coaches, Maths Tutors and Career Guidance Counsellors.

This course is aimed at those who wish to apply to colleges of nursing in Ireland or the UK, or to gain certification to work as a healthcare assistant in diverse care settings.

Nursing theory and practice is a core module and is taught by a clinical nurse practitioner. To prepare students for further study in nursing training, or for future employment, there is a strong emphasis on developing their practical skills and personal qualities throughout the course. Guest lectures from past students provide an insight into progression and networking opportunities.

Work experience makes up a core element of the course, where students attend different care settings to gain experience in all aspects of nursing. Practical training is carried out in the college using specialist equipment, such as hospital beds, manual and ceiling hoists, wheelchairs and sliding hoists.

Graduate from our Campus as a fully qualified healthcare assistant, with work-experience, ready to work in any healthcare setting with essential certification in occupational first aid, patient handling and client moving.

Learners are offered a practical and theoretical introduction to a career in nursing. Learners complete work placement in a clinical/ward environment. Training is completed using simulation equipment to help learners understand how to care for patients. The programme gives learners a realistic insight into what the world of nursing entails and enhances learner's opportunities to get a place on a third-level college course. Many higher education colleges have reserved places on their courses for graduates of QQI Nursing Studies.
