This BSc Physics with Medical Applications degree is aimed at students who want to learn about the application of the most fundamental of sciences to 21st-Century Medicine. Students undertaking this degree will still obtain a thorough grounding in modern physics, but will also take modules that gives them expertise in modern medical techniques, from CAT and MRI scans through to radiation and laser applications.

In the Physics of Medical Devices module, you’ll gain insights into the medical device industry, from the initial concept of a medical device to its manufacture. In the Diagnostic Imaging module, you’ll gain an understanding of the principles of how an image is formed using x-rays or sound waves, and be able to critically assess the important design features in such imaging devices for optimum image quality. 

This course equips students with the skills to manage the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injured individuals by offering a unique blend of academic theory, practical workshops and clinical placements in the final year. It involves treating patients of all ages with a range of illnesses and conditions, including those with back and neck problems, sports injuries, arthritis, or those recovering from strokes and operations. The focus of our treatment is exercise prescription.

The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy is a four-year degree programme which includes a total of 31 weeks of clinical practice in the last two years of the programme. Over the remaining three years you will undertake studies in the various disciplines of physiotherapy including cardiorespiratory care, clinical neurology and musculoskeletal disorders for people across the lifespan. The one-year Physiotherapy Assistant (Health Service Skills) course is designed to equip the learner with the opportunity of obtaining a Major QQI Level 5 Award in Health Service Skills 5M3782. This course aims to equip the learner with the necessary skill required to progress on to potential employment as a Physiotherapy Assistant or a Health Care Assistant. This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.

This one-year Physiotherapy Studies course introduces the core principles of rehabilitation, focusing on the assessment and treatment of mobility issues resulting from injury, illness, or aging. Students develop the practical skills necessary to support HSE healthcare teams in delivering effective therapy programs and restoring client movement. Highlighting the program's hands-on approach, practical sessions are held at premier facilities, including the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena and the National Gymnastics Training Centre.

On this course, you will develop foundational skills and knowledge in subjects related to physiotherapy, both theoretical and practical. This will prepare you for progression to Higher Level study.

Successful completion of this course will result in a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Physiotherapy Assistant 5M3782.
