The purpose of the Healthcare Support QQI Level 5 programme provides learners with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to work as Healthcare Assistants across hospitals, nursing homes, community care, and social care environments.

This comprehensive major award develops person centred care skills while preparing students for further education in nursing, health science and social care pathways.

This traineeship includes 10 weeks of work placement, which is a key component of this course.

This programme is a culmination of a two-year development process, during which there was extensive consultation with the healthcare sector. It has been developed specifically for healthcare assistants to provide them with a pathway from Further Education and Training (FET) at Level 5 to this programme at Higher Education and Training (HET) Level 6.

This two-year Higher Certificate in Heritage Studies at GMIT Galway campus provides students with a broad-based knowledge and understanding of the built, cultural, natural, and digital heritages of Ireland and Europe.

Heritage involves the practical application and use of the past in the present – in heritage tourism, visitor attractions, museum exhibitions, public history, community archaeology, conservation/restoration projects, festivals, reenactments, commemorations, national identities, genealogy, film, TV, radio, libraries, archives, and creative digitalisation.

The History programme combines the strength of a broad-based programme in the first two years, introducing all students to the sheer diversity of historical studies, with the freedom to explore areas of particular interest to individual students in the final two years. A range of modules covering medieval and modern periods, including Irish, European, and American history, as well as some modules exploring the skills and methods which historians use, and the kinds of debates in which historians engage.

There is the opportunity to concentrate on those parts of history which interest you most, and above all in the final year dissertation, an independent research project which very many students find the most rewarding part of their whole degree programme.
